INDONESIA- Position Among the Stars

Selamat Pagi
   means Aloha in
 Indonesia!
Cinta Terakhir by Ari Lasso on Grooveshark
Note: All photos are my own, shot
here in Hawaii. Click to enlarge.

According to
" Indonesia
 is a vast equatorial archipelago
 of 17,000 islands
 extending 5,150 kilometers (3,200 miles)
 east to west,
between the Indian
 and Pacific Oceans
in Southeast Asia. "
The modern nation
was born
in 1945
with independence
from the Netherlands.

Due to the posts
of my wonderful
Indonesian
blogger friends,
my interest
is growing.

 I am learning
that Indonesia
is a sort of
Super Hawaii:
We are a small state,
 but Indonesia is
the world's fourth
most populous nation!
Like Hawaii people,
 Indonesians are joined
 by the sea
 living on neighbor islands.
Oahu,
our 'gathering place'
has fewer than
1 million inhabitants.
Java
can claim around 130 million!
that's some 60 percent
 of the country's population.
It helps that the island Java
is approximately the size
of New York State!
 Sumatra, the other 'big island'
is much larger even than Java.
But fewer than
 a third of Indonesians
 live there.

As in Hawaii,
 outer areas of the archipelago
 sometimes feel
 misunderstood
and mismanaged
by a government
all the way over
 on  Java
(or Honolulu),
  The Moluccas.
The island of Bali,
 Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo),
Sulawesi,
and the Indonesian part of
 New Guinea
(known as Papua or Irian Jaya)
are also
INDONESIA.

We Hawaii people
are used to ethnic
and cultural diversity,
but we are relatively
 homogenous
 when you consider
Indonesia's
 more than 580 languages
and dialects!
 Thirteen of those,
 boast more than
 one million speakers.
Today I saw
an absorbing film:
"Position Among the Stars"
filmed with a real
Indonesian family.
The very human stories
of family, aging,
making a living,
coming of age,
living with momentous
change,
all in a setting
so very different
yet so familiar
quite touched my
heart.
I highly recomend
that you view the film
if you can.
Currently
it is running
 on HBO.
A 'Trailer' for the film
is below.

Here are a few Indonesian [Malay] words
that we use in English everyday:
Ketchup,
Bamboo
Mango
Cockatoo
 Orangutan
Sarong
and our friend
Gecko.

Prophet YOU

A   L   O   H   A  !
" Whatever we expect
with confidence
becomes our own
self-fulfilling
 prophecy.  "

Brian Tracy

" I say
 'Expect the best
and even better
will happen.' "

Rima Fakih

" I have no
 idols.
 I admire
work,
dedication
 and competence.  "

Ayrton Senna

  =^..^=

What do YOU prophesy?

 - we all do it:
What we say,
what we expect
of someone,
how we behave
 around them;
all based on our
expectations.
So what do YOU
prophesy?

By this time
it is no secret
that the best athletes
train their bodies
AND their minds.
Sports Psychologists
make a good living
telling athletes
to practice
 in the mind,
to visualize,
over and over again
JUST what they want
to happen.

Brain imaging proves
that the mind believes it
true
when we really
 visualize it.

What we expect
shapes our world
and influences those
closest to us.

What do we expect of
them?
Do they feel
positive expectations
from us?

Are we armored
against ANOTHER
disappointment?

Does our heart
expand with joy
when we hear
their key
in the door?

Believe it
to achieve it.

Sometimes I tell
my [blog invisible] husband:
" When we get up to
 dance
at your 100th birthday
 celebration
everybody
is going to applaud-
so be ready. "

He doesn't even
protest
that I'm silly
anymore.

Instead,
we dance
with eyes
half closed.

We can feel
the love
of all our friends
and neighbors.

It's gonna be GREAT!

What do YOU
prophesy?

Cloud Literacy

A   L   O   H   A  !
Click on the clouds & optical effects below:
Crepuscular Rays
- an Optical Effect -
 shining up from
 Cumulus clouds.
The ones
shining down
from the
 Stratocumulus
are called
 'Jacob's Ladder

Crepuscular times of day
are  around dawn and dusk.
When boundaries of
light and dark
 are emphasized.
Crepuscular comes from the Latin
 "crepusculum" - 'Twilight.'

" And we are put on Earth
a little space,
 that we may learn
to bear the beams
of love."

 William Blake

 Radiatus

Above:
 the jet-stream Cirrus
variety.

Perspective makes these
parallel filaments,
driven by high winds,
appear to  yearn
towards convergence
in the distance.

" You must not blame me
 if I do talk
 to the clouds. "

Thoreau.

 Hawaii Rainbow-
Optical Effect of
the refraction of light
through water droplets,
blown over Waikiki.
Notice the Primary Bow,
and the fainter
"Secondary Bow."

A darker band:
"Alexander's Dark Band"
between them,
is not obvious
in my picture;
Sorry.

Clouds
are a locus of wonder.
Light Wind Water
collaborate.

They teach us
many lessons
if we spend time
with them.

My wish for you
today:

“ Be thou the rainbow
 in the storms of life.

The evening beam
that smiles the clouds
 away,
and tints tomorrow
with prophetic
 ray .”

The biggest problems
that we face
are
Human Made Problems,
or
Human Ignored Problems.

We create our world
with laws
and customs,

-public, private
 & family-

evolving
over time,

as
thousands of planters,

with their own ideas

plant in the same  garden
over time.

Some see a failed
formal garden;
Others celebrate
the riot of
diversity.

Niches grow up
and defend
their ecology.

Certain virtues
get choked out.

But there is one
Golden Hope
for our
garden called
Society::

Human problems
have human
solutions.

And as soon as
enough of us
see through the fog
deciding that
something matters,

Then We Can
Do Anything.

When we pull
in the same
direction.

Thank    Y O U
for blooming here
in Our Garden!
