Plain-Clothes Santa

A   L   O   H   A  !

" When we are humble

everyone is a potential best friend

and our generosity naturally grows.

We want to do things, to help out.

A wonderful Zen tradition

is called "inji-gyo,"

or secret good deeds. . .

- Secret good deeds.
 They are so much fun.
In their doing
you can't help but
smile. "

Geri Larkin
 "Tap Dancing in Zen"

As usual,
plain-clothes Santa
gave gift baskets
to indigents
on the Honolulu
streets,
and to the Mission.

Plain-clothes Santa
is a nice Jewish boy,
just like Jesus.

" Summer set
 lip
 to earth's bosom
 bare,

 And left the flushed
 print
in a poppy
there. "

 Francis Thompson
 "The Poppy," 1891
