Sailor Jerry Tattoo God Father

A    L    O    H    A  !
“ People take
different roads
seeking fulfillment
and happiness.
Just because they’re
not on your road
doesn’t mean
they’ve gotten lost. ”

 Dalai Lama

 "I never feel age...
If you have
creative work,
you don't have
age or time."

Louise Nevelson

Rollo was running the shop
while I was driving my taxi
through these streets.

Tattooing
was invented in Polynesia
and sailors were the first westerners
to get tattoos as mementos of their voyages.

Honolulu Town and her Harbor have been
Crossroads of the Pacific
since the 1700s,
especially for sailors.

A key figure in modern tattoo art
is Sailor Jerry
[Norman Keith Collins]
and he worked his iconic magic
right here in my town.
Down in Chinatown,
just off of Hotel Street,
Sailor Jerry tattooed many
many people, and his art
traveled around the world.
Much of what is familiar
about 20th Century skin art
flowed from his pen.
WWII insured that his
tattoos would "die"
in virtually every battle
of the Pacific,
and live
in every state of the USA.
[And Beyond]
Today, "his" shop
is still working it's art
albeit under a different name.

Do YOU have or want
a tattoo? Of What?

Fondly,
                       your tattooed lady, cloudia

I used to consider tattoos but never found one I felt like I wanted to live forever with.

A great post, with pictures and quotes.

No, no tattoos here.

That first quote reminds of the wonderful Robert Frost poem on the same subject.

I'm not a tattoo kind of gal, though I don't mind it on others. If I could wash them off and start again after a couple of years, it would be another matter.

Love the Dalai Lama's wisdom. And am still considering what tattoo I could live with forever - and where...

Tattoos make me laugh when the host gets old and the tattoo becomes distorted.
