Veterans of the Culture Wars

A    L    O    H    A  !
" But
there’s nothing wrong
with old age
that a curious mind,
an
active life and
a glass of wine
with a friend
cannot cure. "

GEN Silent Trailer 2.0 from Stu Maddux on Vimeo

These people suffered
 for being different
in a way that people today
cannot comprehend.

The culture they grew up in
called them sick, evil,
& worse.

Most were
estranged from
(or unknown to)
 their families.

They showed
real courage
standing up
for each other.

They changed the way
the world
looks at Diversity
and Human Rights.
THIS generation
that we are talking about.

We all live the freedom
that they won.

They paid enormous
economic,
emotional,
& legal costs.

They nursed their
 closest friends
who died horribly
in the first nightmare years
of the AIDS Epidemic.

They wear no medals.
They draw no pensions.

But can't we see
that at least
they live with
D I G N I T Y
that they have
 certainly earned
for others -
for us?

How I agree with that first comment Cloudia.

Sometimes I think about conditions that still existed even when I was growing up, and I'm astonished. So much progress has been made in a very short period of time, really.

What the world needs now, is love sweet love, some good wine, sweet conversation, LAUGHTER, and music to wash away the blues. Oh and some real heat, besides sunshine, in my world this morning. Aloha to you today Cloudia, see you at the Oscars tonight! Hehehehe!

The verbal and ignorant mistreatment of LGBT patients will take another lifetime to correct, re-educate and realign med-nursing staff. I saw this entire film in an LGBT seminar within a national hospice nurse meeting. Such folks have been the kindest, and most stunning of my patients. They deserve honor and togetherness at end-of-life. Their battles during their younger lives are still being fought. My dream job: nurse in a free-standing LGBT hospice facility. Aloha, DrumMajor

I enjoyed Friko’s quote – she always has quotable sentences.

But I also enjoyed the other part of your post and I am truly surprised, as being a citizen of an “old” country, that the “new” country of the US is so backward and cruel in its treatment of its diverse citizens. When I came to the US I was told everyone was free and equal – but many US states don’t believe in that. I remember well when I was a little girl growing up in Paris (the old country as Donald Rumsfelt, Secretary Minister under Bush, said was so backward) my parents took me to some comedy shows where the comics were all gays or transvestites. I was 8 years old at the time, and remember as funny what I could understand. My mother just explained to me that France was made up of a variety of people but that we were all human beings (and free) and that was all. I always took it for granted.

I hope we are emerging into a new era for gays and lesbians.

I have several good friends who happened to have gay children. I loved how accepting they were of their children, understood and supported them despite some extended family members who were very religious and condemning.
