Etlingera elatior (also known as torch ginger among other names) is a species of herbaceous perennial plant in the family Zingiberaceae; it is native to Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and New Guinea.
Each breadfruit is a compound or multiple fruit called a syncarp. The female inflorescence, appearing after the male, consists of 1500-2000 minute flowers attached to a spongy core. The flowers fuse together and develop into the fleshy, edible portion of the fruit. Breadfruit is monoecious with male and female flowers developing on the same tree at the end of branches. The male inflorescence (flower) typically appears first.
It is club shaped. Link
If I could capture a
piece of the rainbow,
I'd capture its
beauty and grace.
I'd wrap it around me
like a warm blanket,
And I'd never
feel cold again.
If I could capture a
piece of the rainbow,
I'd capture its hope
and its cheer.
I'd hang it on my
wall in a frame,
To bring joy
throughout the year.
If I could capture a
piece of the rainbow,
I'd capture its magic and light.
I'd keep it close to
my heart and my soul,
And it would make my
life shine bright.

'Pixilated'
is an early American expression
derived from the word 'pixies,'
They would say:
' the pixies had got him. '
Meaning:
'He's not all here!'

DeleteTorch ginger is such a striking plant—both exotic and elegant. Amazing how something so ornamental is also rooted in such a wide and tropical native range!

ReplyDeleteI love your poem today, Cloudia. I have to confess that I have been pixelated... Pixie captured a piece of my heart and took it to Hawaii. Now I am not all here...
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful blend of nature and sentiment in your writing. The images of breadfruit and torch ginger connect so wonderfully to the poem's longing to capture the beauty and joy of a rainbow. It’s like a reminder that nature's wonders can brighten our hearts in ways that last forever. You’ve captured that essence so gracefully. Thank you for sharing.
