Civil Twilight

  A  L  O  H  A

From

Honolulu

Darkness surrenders,
reluctantly yielding
to day.
Fishing boats awaken
setting out across
 the bay,

Rising sun behind
casts light across
 the spires:
windows etched
and glowing
wrapped
in silver fires.

Silent Shine
reflections gleam
dancing over glass
where only dark
had been.

Forgetting night
peace arrives,
simple, profound,
gratefully alive.

In the lantern hush
of Chinatown
a small lion
learns to roar —
his mask bright red
as heartbeat,
patina and
incense of yore

The elder bends,
encouraging
slips a dollar to the boy
a prayer to the
future of this magic
our practice of New Year Joy!

  1. Pixie likes the little lion dancer because she's a little lioness! Great post today. It looks like Pixie danced too hard last night and is having a hard time getting up in the morning :)
