Walls Outgrown

"If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you."
- Oscar Wilde

"When you're through changing, you're through."

- Bruce Barton

- Kurt Vonnegut

Another wonderful day!

Today I was thinking that coping mechanisms (we've all got 'em) become self-imposed handicaps when we neglect to outgrow them. To gain perspective on what's really important, just look at a six-month-old newspaper!

  3. I think you're right. It's related to seeing what you expect to see, rather than what is actually there. Habit is enemy of adventure.

  4. It's good to keep telling ourselves that change is an opportunity to grow. Thanks for the reminder. Aloha, Cloudia.

  7. My first quick look at that shark-toothed club and I thought it was a handcarved and decorated guitar - imagine my surprise! Of course, even for what it is, it's beautifully done.

  12. To face new challenges is to learn and grow out of your old shell. To linger is to become trapped.

  13. Cloudia,
I enjoyed your quotes. Wilde is always dead on.

And that about coping mechanisms....I agree. I think there are ways to deal in the short term that become ways to avoid dealing in the long term. Those things to get us through a crisis can save our lives or keep us going, but they can get in the way if they keep us from dealing with the challenges.

  14. Barrie- Thanks, friend!

Claude- And I would love to eat wonderful French cuisine every day as you do, Mon ami!

    MagicEye - Namaste my friend!

Barbara M - Thanks for your contribution!

Sandy C - Indeed. I think of an adult crouching in a child's "fort." What once was safe is now constricting - and usually the monsters are long gone! aloha, Sistah.
