Below: Missing? YOU!
"We need enthusiasm, imagination, and the ability to face facts, even unpleasant ones." Franklin Roosevelt
"Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self confidence." Robert Frost
"When a dancer comes onstage, he is not just a blank slate that the choreographer has written on. Behind him he has all the decisions he has made in life. . . You are looking at the person he is, the person he cannot help but be. . . Exceptional dancers, in my experience, are also exceptional people, people with an attitude toward life, a kind of quest, and an internal quality. They know who they are, and they show this to you, willingly." Mikhail Baryshnikov
"The relationship that solves your problems is the relationship you have with yourself." Diane Von Furstenberg
"There's so much talk of self-improvement, living your best life, being faster, smaller, busier, more satisfied, and better rested, that the idea of celebrating what you are right now, suddenly seemed rather daring and radical. Dissembling, prevaricating, compensating and exaggerating are such a large part of modern life. Most people find the reverse - a sort of astringent openness and sincerity - either embarrassing, risky to the point of insanity, or plain unbearable. The whole experience was rather reviving."
Susie Boyt "In Praise of the Selfish Life" (Financial Times)
A L O H A! Cloudia
Maturity is the loss of the need to be something other than what you are and being comfortable being mature.
ReplyDeleteI need sun, I need heat, I need summer to feel fine.
ReplyDeleteOver here it is very cold. Yesterday we got snow a little bit but just after we got fine hail.
Not easy to drive. I think my young palmtrees are dead. I hate winter !
I am intrigued by the Mikhail Baryshnikov quote and completely agree with Susie Boyt.
ReplyDeleteI found that a thought-provoking post.
ReplyDelete"The relationship that solves your problems is the relationship you have with yourself." Diane Von Furstenberg
ReplyDeleteThis is the quotation I like best: it's more or less like "Love your neighbour like yourself". If you love yourself, you love the people around you, and this has nothing to do with selfishness.
I must confess to too often looking ahead instead of looking around.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a post to make one think that one Cloudia!
ReplyDeleteI can see myself on that beachtowel, patting that dog, being radical...
ReplyDeletethe last paragraph is particularly thought-provoking; too much focus on detail!
ReplyDeleteHello Cloudia, and thank you for your lovely comment on my blog!
ReplyDeleteI like these quotes - I agree with what Reader Wil says too.
My favourite quote is the last one - yes!
I needed these thoughts exactly now, particularly Frost's thoughts on education and Boyt's on some good old selfishness. Necessary! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteJust yesterday my friend and I discussed about today's children who won't do anything unless 'bribed'. who taught them that?
ReplyDeleteWalking Man: You seem both comfortable and mature!
ReplyDeleteClaude: Wish I could send you some sun!!
Chris: Thanks.
Dave King: Mahalo. I still can't e-mail you . . .
Wil: Interesting view, friend!
Charles: But your horse knows the way.
Ake: Thanks!
Deborah: Funny! I see you there too-
Kiwi: yes, we miss the forest for the trees.
Ralph: Warm aloha & Welcome!
Sandy: So glad to contribute to your sanity ;->. Just returning the favor!
Crafts: Hmmm. I wonder? ;->
brilliant pictures as usual.
ReplyDeleteand the last quote rings so true!
Thank you for your information about the painter who was the first to paint Aborigines.
ReplyDeleteMagic Eye: Big Thanks! Namaste-
ReplyDeleteReader Wil: I love your new "Banner" at your blog!
I like this quote:
ReplyDelete"Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self confidence." Robert Frost
I find myself often in this postion of listening, learning without talking. I find people who are more than willing to talk unending about their point of view without listening from another. A friend asked me today if that was not "lonely". Some, yet I learn much.
I wouldn't mind - right now - to sit on that wonderful beach... ahhh!
ReplyDeleteLove that long suffering look on the dog's face. Perfect for the post.
