We are expecting mammoth surf tomorrow on Oahu's North Shore. Steadily, these recent days, it has been growing. Over 20 feet on Saturday, 30 or 40 feet today; but the really big stuff is expected Monday, like up to 50 feet- Or 60! Cowabunga, Dudes! 40 years ago 1969 was a legedary year of 50 footers, washed out roads, waves in living rooms. and the best golden-age surfers putting it all on the line. An extremely strong storm north-northwest is aiming it's hurricane force winds directly at our isle from afar, driving the waves. A rare event. The Eddie Aikau Surf Meet only runs when surf tops 40 feet. Tuesday might be the day! Who was Eddie? Find out here: http://comfortspiral.blogspot.com/2008/12/eddie-would-go.html |

Winter in Hawaii
by Cloudia
Fans on low
or off,
the porthole above my bed
closed while I'm asleep.
Bring out the blankets,
It went down to 68 last night!
Winter in Hawaii.
ALOHA to YOU,
Dudes, Dudettes, and Best Buds! cloudia
Think of me as a huge antenna collecting energy in order to use what I have to pin point and redirect the disparate energies into a single beam.
ReplyDeleteSo you all like the big surf...cool now send some rain to draught stricken Texas, Fire Twin.
Aloha.
Gadfly...muckraker I think.
Be careful surfing Cloudia -- might even be dangerous in your kayak on the south side?
ReplyDeleteCome to K.C. -- it was 26 last night, supposed to snow next Tuesday and Thursday. My "portholes" have the storms down and pillows stacked on the sill to keep out the cold. Stretched plastic wrap over the wimpy windows happens soon.

Be brave Cloudia, and be safe.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine such a thing as you describe. ~~~~~
Yes be safe,Cloudia!30-60 feet over next one or two days whoa!!!
ReplyDeleteyour first three quotes are just too good...Have a safe week.Aloha!
I hope that this big wave won't effect you! It looks like a sunami to me. Be careful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit! If you come to Holland you can certainly visit me! I'll be your guide.
There is quite a story behind President Lincoln and his face. I had seen some of it on television in a program about death masks. But anyway, your face does tell a lot about you. I did enjoy this post a lot.
ReplyDeleteOut of your usual Comfort zone? but excellent as always.
ReplyDeletelovely reflections..
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely way to winter, Cloudia! To be sure. And that surf sounds unimaginable to me. Wow.
ReplyDeleteI sure like the Wilde and Lincoln quotes. Thanks so much.
Laffin @ "cowabunga, dude!" and the Lincoln quote.
ReplyDeleteHey...I still want to learn the Mummer's Strut!
High surf? Oh, better be careful! : )
ReplyDeleteI like those statues or totem poles (not sure how to describe them!) in your 3rd picture!
Be careful in the surf!! I loved the quotes today.
ReplyDeleteOh how you must suffer in those frigid nights! ;)
ReplyDeleteCC, what's with the bad spacing in your post? Some of the words are missing. Please fix, if possible.
ReplyDeleteGigi -- uh, oh, maybe your computer caught your cold, as the spacing appears okay in my computer. Maybe turning your system off, then back on, might show the words better? Good Luck,
ReplyDeleteDrumMajor
50 ft waves???? Will you be safe on your boat honey?
ReplyDeleteI still haven't convinced Art to take a trip out to the Northshore to see the waves. They keep saying how bad the traffic is going to be.
ReplyDeletelove it all !
ReplyDeleteCloudia, enjoy your 68 degrees! It was 27 degrees in Seattle last night :)
ReplyDeleteI love the Lincoln quote! And stay safe, please; that surf sounds scary. Aloha, dear "dudette."
This is the first I've heard of the storms approaching you. Be very careful! I hope you re in a high place.
ReplyDeleteSo ...you wouldn't recommend my beginners surfing lesson that day ?? Ok..I'll take the waves in my living room...Stay safe Cloudia, take no chances !
ReplyDeleteOn one hand I'm glad that there is still something manking can't control, on the other, I wish for you all to be save.
ReplyDeleteA nice and save start into the new week for you all.
I love the reform quote. So true.
ReplyDeleteI love that second shot of the reflection. Great one!
ReplyDeleteWow that's high! Stay dry, Cloudia and be sure to keep us updated on the big surf on Northshore.
ReplyDeleteIt's snowing here in the mountains - a perfect day to put up the Christmas tree.
WOW! 50 - 60 footers!! We had one storm like that in England when I lived there in 1953. Fortunately we lived on the top of high cliffs, but still the surf broke over the top in some places and washed out a field of barley.
ReplyDeleteAnd we are getting all upset about our two big storms coming in tomorrow and Thursday, when we may even get as much as 2" of rain on the coast! Of course we haven't had any rain for 6 months -- and we Southern Californians don't know how to drive in the rain!
Be safe my friend

LOVE these comments!
ReplyDeleteSurf got into the 40s, but could rally.
Traffic on the North Shore is insane.
Love you guys!
Aloha
