"My whole life has been happiness,
I love everybody."
Louis Armstrong
I love everybody."
Louis Armstrong
Honolulu's Chinatown
><>
"Chinatown is one of the coolest, most interesting places in urban Oahu.
Sure it's gritty, but that's part of it's charm.
Where else can you choose from a rainbow of perfumed shampoos
that sit on a shelf above raw goat meat and a whole pig's head?
It's not a manicured, controlled, master-planned community.
It has all the noise, smells and energy of an open market."

"I began to recognize what I had considered Pops' (Louis Armstrong) grinning in the face of racism as his absolute refusal to let anything, even anger about racism, steal the joy from his life."

Is the loss of yearning something to be mourned?
Or was it just the glorification of anxiety?

Is the loss of yearning something to be mourned?
Or was it just the glorification of anxiety?
Even so - if that be the case -
I turned my unease
into a quest for
MORE
experience, knowledge,
and life.
Each new beginning of my life
has been preceded by
existential dissatisfaction
leading to a change,
to chance,
akin to a rebirth.
So is it OK,
or a cosmic sell-out,
to say:
"This must be the place,"
To feel content
or am I losing my edge,
my SELF?
The world
(I am discovering)
operates by rules
very different
from those I grew up with.
Perhaps I needn't be
on guard
quite so much.
I do believe
I will dare to choose
feel good
over
fear.
I made this decision
when I realized that
animals usually look pretty
relaxed.
And when the moment
of Leap & Pounce
is announced
I will do so in an
instant!
Then
return to grooming
and staring
into
Space...
ALOHA, my Year-End Friends!
cloudia
Aloha, Cloudia! And I wish you a very happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Cloudia. And you can send that truck this way!
ReplyDelete<><
I hear you loud and clear twin. Yet i would like to be content on the mountain top but I perceive there is yet another taller one to step up and onto.
ReplyDeleteAll these years and the only concrete lesson I've learned is to not piss into the wind but rather with it; then follow the trail.
Male enhancement....hehehehehe
ReplyDeletethe chinatown is nice!
ReplyDeleteHi Cloudia!
ReplyDeleteBlogtrotter has reached the January 2009 trips! Not bad; just one year delay... ;)

"instant male enhancement" made me laugh
ReplyDeleteif only a click would do it!! ;)
love the brick building
I like your cat-like philosophy. Oh and perhaps the instant male enhancement would best be saved for a photo of Viagra Falls. ;)
ReplyDeleteNow that's a toast! Love the comparison to animals. Yes!
ReplyDeleteI always kind of wanted to be a cat myself.
ReplyDelete"Instant male enhancement" LOL. The first of many great lines in this excellent post. Loved the thoughts, Cloudia.
ReplyDeletealoha, Cloudia, stay as happy as you are. dream of the snow, if you must, but it's not all it's cracked up to be. Not here, anyway.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year and Aloha!
A truck FULL of chocolate? I like the idea. :)
ReplyDeleteI wish you all the best in 2010!
This has GOT to be one of your most beautiful posts, (among many), that Armstrong quote blew me away. As I read your words I looked at my dogs sleeping faces, I think all their dreams are pleasant. Happy New Year my dear.
ReplyDeleteIt was only a couple of days ago that i found Chocolate with Red Pepper - what an amazing combination and to be honest, taste as well.
ReplyDelete'Fighting back' with love is probably the best one could do, also throughout the new year.
All the very best for you all while changing into 2010.
