  1. Whatever the politics,

    the sacrifice of young lives is profound, and worthy of our reverent notice...

  4. Odd how a stupid child gets more press and picture coverage than men and women dying to save a way of life that allows assholes the room to be assholes.

  5. Sadly they are familiar as the NY Times prints these as the Pentagon releases them and on This Week there is a segment for In Memorium .. we always make sure to watch and give them the respect they earned .. I am never sure which is worse, a 20something dying before he's lived or a 40something who likely leaves behind a wife and child(red).

    I keep wondering how Bush/Cheney sleep at night

  6. The news of yet another life taken always makes me sad, and I get upset when respect for those lost and their loved ones is not forthcoming. Thank you for the reminder..... we hear similar news of our own service personnel in the UK too.

  7. and still they die.

    There is this small English town near the airbase where the coffins arrive where they have these endless funeral processions that make the news. The names are read out on TV, the dead are always 'heroes', some as young as 18, many with families, children without a father;
    the next week another batch arrives, and so on.

    The killing continues . . . .

  11. As a society, I think we are mostly clueless regarding the realities of war.

    Looking at the ages of those brave and fallen soldiers, and subtracting back to 2001, it becomes very sad indeed.
