POSTED: 10:28 a.m. HST, Sep 11, 2010

Hawaii's Little League World Series team from Waipio is being honored with a parade in their home neighborhood.

The Waipio Little League All-Stars and seven other champion youth sports teams and individuals will participate in the "Parade of Champions" on Sunday.

Acting Mayor Kirk Caldwell says the parade is a chance for the community to show its pride in the achievements of the Waipio team.

The team won the U.S. championship title last month before losing to Japan in the final game of the tournament.

The parade also will recognize champions in baseball, softball, soccer and boxing.

  1. There is a baseball player on the Kansas City Royals from Hawaii, named (and I know I'm gonna mangle it) Kali Kaihai'a'hue. Or something like that. The Tigers' announcers had their hands full saying his name. I can only imagine a whole teram full of Hawaiians!
