The National Weather Service has issued a high surf warning

from noon Wednesday until noon Thursday.
Forecasters say wave faces will be between 25 and 35 feet on Oahu's North Shore.
Thanks for visiting today. With light trade winds, conditions look ideal for the most elite of surfers.

When waves are consistently 25 feet and higher,
the best in the world surf mountains of water.
The last time the contest was held was in December of 2009.
Spectators from around the world always clog traffic on Oahu's North Shore for this event.
But who could blame them?

ReplyDeleteI read a story once about three average surfers who went surfing on Maui in very "calm" conditions only to have the waves start getting larger and stronger in the space of a few minutes. It was a riot with each of the guys having to finally face what they had talked about wanting to do for years only to realize they were not up to it.
When they finally reached shore safely they gave away the surfboards and went home.
I've always been in awe of those top notch surfers. The wanna-be posers, not-so-much.
ReplyDeleteWish I could be there to witness the contest, or since I'm wishing/dreaming I guess I wish I was participating in the contest.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photos and lovely quotes.
That would certainly be something awesome to see. The waves alone would be a thrill to someone as landlocked as we are.

We went to the Eddie Aikau contest last year. It was cancelled the first day and went off on the 2nd. The drive was OK at first and then got incredibly jammed as we neared the beach area. It was impossible to find parking close by and we had to walk a long, long distance. It was cold, but was pretty exciting. We could hardly see where the surfers were. We got to talk to a lot of people. It was fun. Would we do it again? No way. Once was enough. :-)
ReplyDeleteCool! Surfing is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank YOU :)
ReplyDeleteAh the tats. Someone has a bumper sticker 'she wrote love on her arms'. Is that what is going on?

Thanks for stopping by here :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to see this surfing. I have watched surfers in North Carolina (they play in the water directly in front of the No Surfing sign, which I also enjoy), and I marvel at their poise and stamina and strength. Surfing is a beautiful dance.
