A L O H A !
Too much golden butter
on these morning mashed potato clouds. . .
Part of me actually hungers
for gray days
at this time of year.
I mean the kind of grey,
November days I knew
growing up on the East Coast.
growing up on the East Coast.
Skies of pewter, and stone.
When the world seems
empty
of inspiration
empty
of inspiration
or sparkle;
But that's OK.
But that's OK.
We hide at home
accomplishing "nothing."
Reading the same page
over and over,
till overcome by
staring,
infectious as a
yawn.
I think
sometimes
we need to lie fallow;
like a field.
Something undoubtedly
mentally healthy
is occurring then.
accomplishing "nothing."
Reading the same page
over and over,
till overcome by
staring,
infectious as a
yawn.
I think
sometimes
we need to lie fallow;
like a field.
Something undoubtedly
mentally healthy
is occurring then.
Some of us,
slaves to the 'should'
need colds or flu
slaves to the 'should'
need colds or flu
to force us to participate
in this orgy of
non-participation.
in this orgy of
non-participation.
But I believe
in wool-gathering
days.
in wool-gathering
days.
We sleep-walk through tasks
that cannot be postponed
(or ducked).
But long to return home
to stare with delicious
vacancy
at the TV,
blogs,
vacancy
at the TV,
blogs,
whatever. . .
Bed and beverages
are important parts
of this ritual
too.
Bed and beverages
are important parts
of this ritual
too.
One feels (I feel!)
about as interesting
about as interesting
as a lump of cold potatoes.
(How nice for YOU)
(How nice for YOU)
But that's OK;
It's strangely cozy
feeling like that
lump.
feeling like that
lump.
Why have I never noticed this
while walking 20+ years in Waikiki?
Oahu in November
has such days,
days of puddles and puddings.
has such days,
days of puddles and puddings.
Days to savor.
Days to be potato:
All eyes, no mouth.
Days to cherish the bland
the every-day-ness
of Fall.
Of life.
Of life.
Blessed soft days!
To rest up,
to hide,
To rest up,
to hide,
to hold indulgent parties
with myself.
(Another cupcake?)
(Another cupcake?)
What guilty, unproductive joys
tempt YOU to hide at home
on such a gray
mashed potato
day?
Rouse yourself long enough to leave a comment, please.
Thank YOU, Warmly, cloudia
Brown clouds. Special.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
Oh what a tricky thing memory is. I too JUST AM PINING for the days of bitter cold that last for a month after winter in the bones, slush filled streets that cover ten foot wide three feet deep pot holes that tear tires and front ends apart. I am so longing to see mounds of snow grow higher and higher by the week. Oh Cloudia I can just barely wait while you're stuck there in a moderate zone where white crap is not pooped all over everything and ice doesn't hang like dragons teeth from the corners of the house.
ReplyDeleteReally sista' I feel for your longing and will relish the bitterness of winter with a new joy.
as I sighed deeply on the elevator up to the office this morning, a fellow standing behind me said softly 'its Friday' ...
ReplyDeleteThose stones are something else. lol. I kind of like the wintery skies myself.
ReplyDeleteLove the phallic stones!
ReplyDeleteI'll trade you November grey - I've had enough.
Gray is one of my favorite colors. It blends so well with my dark brown skin. Dove gray, steel gray, green/gray, slate gray, warm gray, blue gray. Any hue of gray, actually. I love cloudy gray days to. I feel really melancholy - kinda like a cool gloomy. I am a winter child so I love icey pinks, grays, blues, whites and of course black. I believe the "nakedness" of winter allows us to see the truth of who we are. Bare. Stripped of our attire, so to speak. I have an idea as to why you never noticed that great work of art before. It happens to all of us. Depending on the time of day, season or weather people tend to see different things. That's a wonderful aspect of life. That depending upon our perspective, we observe unusal things along our travels. Great post Cloudia. Cheers!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe, Cloudia, since you said you got some of your "groove" back living on land, that you can appreciate the cool stones, eh? But who placed those stones there, in that way, is the real question...I wanna meet THAT landscaper....DrumMajor
ReplyDeletelove the first shot!!

You made me hungry with all this potato talk. Joking aside - really fantastic post! Lots of twists and turns complimented with interesting photos. Now let me go back and stare at this blog again.;) Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou say potato and I say tomato! I like the memory of the Beatles strolling across the avenue!...how would you like to savour some of that good old fashion winter....they say we're going to get a bit of snow maybe this weekend....maybe an inch...I say bring on more fall......and leaves and sunshine...and Aloha to you!
ReplyDeleteCloudia - this post was very telling. i like that about you and about your words. helps me - truly it does. I'm heavy into wool these days - its the east coast way. I rush from door to door and I miss a lot. thank you for reminding me to take it slower - to be mindful of skys, and rocks, and the passage of a season. you are wonderful (but you already know that - right? hope so!)
ReplyDeletethank YOU each SO much
ReplyDeletefor SO much you give me-
Hmmmm.... half the skies are gray and half are blue on my side of the island. My mother is going crazy trying to decide whether she should hang her clothes out.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday, Cloudia.
I gotta go paint some folding doors today.
The second last photo of the sausage and two veg (Aussie slang) gets my vote :-).
ReplyDeleteThe soft grey days are perfect for curling up with a book and neglecting chores. Sometimes necessary to have 'time out' - for me, anyway.
ReplyDeleteme too, definitely me too. I've never seen myself as a potato, though.
ReplyDeleteBut definitely ready for cupcakes and sofas.
I enjoy the grey days too, which is why I always enjoy the arrival of autumn.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day.
GREAT to see YOU
ReplyDeletethanks
Nice photos.
ReplyDeletei am in bed, drinking tea, fighting a flu, and enjoying being waited on by my husband...."what's for dinner tonight dear? hack, cough," smile to myself...it's kind of a holiday getting sick sometimes.....
ReplyDeleteAloha friend. Yes the tater days are here in the NorthEast. I wish I could tater eye myself. Alas chores, duty, life activities, they all get in the way. But this post... It's Friday... I'm growing my eyes... I long for more time in the tater cave. It will come. TY for sharing. Always wonderful to see you.
ReplyDeleteThe clouds are beautifully gray in my neck of the woods at the moment. I love it! I can't wait to get to a new novel I am reading tonight. Have a great weekend!

ReplyDeletealoha!!
thanks!
ReplyDeleteAh yes, those do nothing days when one can indulge in just being rather than doing.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post, Cloudia - love that top shot (despite all the butter ;-)
Aloha, and have a wonderful (do nothing ?) weekend !
November is the ultimate invitation to stay in and gather wool. A sublimely beautiful month anywhere.
ReplyDeleteI think the only pleasure in hot chocolate is having been cold. Always the pleasure of going home.
Thanks for this post!
I love the caption'Potato Skies'!And yes ,how could you miss something like this for twenty+ years .heeee :):)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day Cloudia...
ReplyDeletePierre
What a wonderful sky !
ReplyDeleteVery curious and funny the phallic stone.
Aloha, Cloudia !
Have a nice week-end.
Oh you conjured up that 'feeling' so perfectly Cloudia. Why is it when the sun is shining we feel we should be 'productive', I find the only time I feel justified in slouching around in my slippers and gown is if it's cold and rainy outdoors, then I looooove reading, watching the worst tv (Housewives of New York City, surely they can't be for real!!) and drinking lots of coffee and eating junk!! Good times!! and btw it was your turn to make me laugh out loud, HOW could you have missed that 'sculpture'(??) for the last 20 years...hilarious. Brilliant post..
ReplyDeleteLOL ... and such a good post! Although we do have too many grey days, I love the fact that it's dark early enough to lounge around in pajamas doing nothing. (Dark here at about 15.30 or just after...)
ReplyDeletelumpy like a PEI potatoe. its plenty grey and chilly here these days
