Cloud Literacy

Click on the clouds & optical effects below:
Crepuscular Rays
- an Optical Effect -
 shining up from
 Cumulus clouds.
The ones
shining down
from the
 Stratocumulus
are called
 'Jacob's Ladder

Crepuscular times of day
are  around dawn and dusk.
When boundaries of
light and dark
 are emphasized.
Crepuscular comes from the Latin
 "crepusculum" - 'Twilight.'

" And we are put on Earth
a little space,
 that we may learn
to bear the beams
of love."

 William Blake

 Radiatus
 a  Notable Cloud species
Above:
 the jet-stream Cirrus
variety.

Perspective makes these
parallel filaments,
driven by high winds,
appear to  yearn
towards convergence
in the distance.

" You must not blame me
 if I do talk
 to the clouds. "

Thoreau.

 Hawaii Rainbow-
Optical Effect of
the refraction of light
through water droplets,
blown over Waikiki.
Notice the Primary Bow,
and the fainter
"Secondary Bow."

A darker band:
"Alexander's Dark Band"
between them,
is not obvious
in my picture;
Sorry.

Clouds
are a locus of wonder.
Light Wind Water
collaborate.

They teach us
many lessons
if we spend time
with them.

My wish for you
today:

“ Be thou the rainbow
 in the storms of life.

The evening beam
that smiles the clouds
 away,
and tints tomorrow
with prophetic
 ray .”

Shine in comments!

              Warmly, cloudia

 Lord Byron

  6. aloha...i just finished your book and have to thank you for such an interesting read...the history and culture of Hawaii is woven seamlessly into a modern tale of enlightenment. My interest in Hawaii had diminished because of the commercialism of the tourism industry....now I am, once again, enthralled with the Hawaiian islands....thanks for helping me understand.....aloha.....

  18. Hey, your information is better than the weatherman! And Hawaii has clouds connected by rainbows. I'd seen that faint Alexander's Dark Band before, but afraid to mention it, wondering if it wasn't real. If you fly in the right planes around Hawaii, you'll see the Care Bears...DrumMajor

  24. Crepiscule with Nellie, Thelonius Monk’s ballad for his beloved, is how I first became familiar with the word for dusk. Your photos and Blake’s quote—brings it into luminous focus.

Thank you for the beauty you reflect.
