One Year Ashore

ALOHA    FRIENDS !
This is an updated post from last September

When you live on a boat, as we do,
THIS is your view!
There is little to see out your porthole,
 maybe one palm tree
 that moves out of sight
with the movements of the boat
at the end of it's ropes.

Yes, this has been home for 20 years,
as I posted about recently

We don't HAVE a view,
we ARE the view!

But all that is about to change
BIG TIME

Below
you can see
my
N E W
V I E W!

I'm beside myself.
Bathroom, Kitchen,
S P A C E. . .

Housing is expensive on islands,
and we looked at many
depressing places-

But finally found a situation
a couple of blocks from
the harbor.
My days can still begin
with a walk on Waikiki Beach.

“ I have heard the mermaids singing,
each to each. ”

 T. S. Eliot

So I'll still see the familiar neighbors:
“ Why do we love the sea?
It is because it has some potent power
to make us think things we like to think. ”

Robert Henri

Just not LIVE with them.

I just hope this sailor can adjust.
But I KNOW
that I
WILL!

I'm gonna lay down now.

My sea legs are confused,
and my head
is SPINNING!

But no more emergencies in the night
like THIS one,
that caused my husband
to miss my nieces wedding.

Or THIS one
that almost sank us!

THIS scary one,

or the TWO Tsunami alerts
HERE & HERE.

Guess I'm just getting soft.

Hooray!

I never about knew any of this!
So that was the cat before me, eh?

            What do you think?

  4. oh my goodness! first off, i had no idea you've been residing on a boat for 21 yrs! wow! i loved that post - my favorite line was: Boat people know that nothing is forever,
    except maintenance.

but, holy cow! you're going to love having a real closet and real fridge and flushing toilets! :) i can only imagine the adjustment, but so glad it will be close to the beach.

  13. Nice review of a busy year. New digs and new kitty. So, now that you have the big kitchen, whatcha fixin'? Are you still baking bread in the breadmaker? Heard anything (good)from your old boat's new owners. Remember, the BOAT owns the HUMANS, right? DrumMajor

  15. We love you at sea or on land. The important question is whether you are happy ashore.
    I do hope so.

  17. Hawaii is the most expensive in the nation in percentage of paycheck spent on rent. I'm watching the live Hawaii Five-O premier, refreshing, finally local news about local news.
