Pele, volcano goddess
created these islands
with her magical hula
of fire!
Sometimes,
folks see her as
a young Hawaiian girl,
sometimes
as a seasoned older
woman in red. . .
"According to Hawaiian Legend,
Pele, the fiery goddess
of the volcanoes
in Hawaii,
would send her white dog
as a messenger to alert the people
when an eruption was imminent.
A white dog was first noticed
by the
observatory staff
during the latter part of 1959
about 1/2 km below the
observatory."

ReplyDeleteBeware of white dogs and old women in red dresses!!
ReplyDeleteIt shocked me the first time I felt how hot the air was near the volcano. When you look into the mouth of the volcano and lava, it becomes an experience you never forget.
