Aloha Where You Like Go?

A  L  O  H  A !

“ For an exile,
 no remembered face
or scene
is too incidental
to clarify
the basic mystery
 of being.”

Czeslaw Milosz

That quote
opens the first chapter
of my autobiographical
novel about being
an exile,
alone & new
in Hawaii

Driving my taxi
in this new city,
I met people
who taught me lessons:
bright lessons,

as well as lessons
from the night side
of life.

One special passenger,
and older local woman,
"Auntie Na"
gently showed me
much about life
that I had
missed.

Her Pidgin
 - our local 'lingo' -
is uniquely
of Hawaii,
but I think
You will
Understand -

Oh June, you young still yet.
 You hungry for experience,
and that’s the way it should be.
 But when you come older,
like me,
 don’t worry,
 you still going be
 learning, still get planny things
 fo do;
no  more time for boredom!
Morning, noon an’ night time
get beauty,
an my family.
 I stay so grateful to
be alive in dis Hawaii.
Every tree, rock,
 plant,
and blade of grass
has Mana.
Everything around us
 is wondrous,
if only we can see.
 I no need night club
 - get nightingale,
da moon, da clouds,
 and choke memories!”

My own fears
 about ageing shifted,
and lightened
as she spoke. . . "

  17. Congrats! A wonderful read on paper; must get a Kindle and try it zapped from the cloud-o-sphere. Like one reader said, "can't wait for the next book!" Soooo, how about one from all your years on da boat and the rowdy spirits from the dock and ocean, eh? Save my wine and cheese. DrumMajor
