"I love my view of Honolulu
Lately,
this worm, or noodle
has emerged
from the murky depths
of the Ala Wai canal.
It seems benign,
if ugly,
and decidedly
un-tropical paradise
It was a submerged
sewer by-pass
enabling the
City & County of Honolulu
to repair Waikiki's aging
netherworld.
Now,
these Civil Saint George's
are slaying the scaly thing:
draining, floating,
preparing it
to be hoist away.
These
are the ACTUAL persons
who keep our infrastructure
working,
ALL over the world.
Let's appreciate them!

Thanks for visiting!
Warmly, cloudia
The view toward sunset seems more pristine. I don't recall the canal being such a poopy brown. Hope it doesn't turn into Flush Creek. Those workers have a tough job to slay and remove the dragon from a boat! DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, long live their lives and duties, safely and soundly! Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteInteresting post. I am so glad that the infrastructure is being properly cared for!
ReplyDeletea very good point.
ReplyDeleteHurray for infrastructure workers !
ReplyDeleteI love the way you care about everyone Cloudia. :)
Yuck. Glad they are slaying it.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Cloudia, we couldn't survive so 'pristinely' without them :) That's rather an odd sight though.
ReplyDeleteYes! Our public servants keep us floating along enjoying our cities.
ReplyDeleteOn another note:
Hubby and I are taking our first trip to Hawaii in the fall. Your writing and photos have been beckoning...
Aloha.
Loved the title of this post.
ReplyDeleteJolly!
ReplyDeleteThanks Each of YOU :-)
that's a tough job

ReplyDeletenot at all attractive .... but hey life's not all tropical paradise
ReplyDeletevery good point.
ReplyDeleteand i love honolulu!
amazing sky in the first photo.
have a great week ahead.
(loved reading your comment..it was very smart. thanks for the smiles.)
I truly wish people did notice and appreciate that people real people earning a living make the things most take for granted happen.
ReplyDeleteDuring the Chap 9 about to happen in Detroit municipal workers pensions are only guaranteed in the state's constitution. It is amazing really a cop or firefighter averages a $30,000 per year pension and anon uniform worker roughly $20,000. I read a boatload of comments that come after the article and it seems as if most people think that is CEO type pensions.
The worst part though is the Uniform (Cops,EMS, Firefighters) don't have the opportunity to pay into Social Security so that is their income and if they worked in the private sector enough quarters to get SS it is reduced by the amount of their pension.
These men and women need some of that Aloha spirit sent their way. It could be rough going for all pensioners in bankruptcy but especially them that do the hardest job of jobs in a deadly city.
I love that you are singing the song of these 'unsung heroes'.
ReplyDeleteI certainly do.
ReplyDeleteThe people beavering away to keep our lives healthy and, ahem, free-flowing, deserve all our thanks.
Fascinating. And I definitely appreciate these workers.
ReplyDeletedef we should appreciate those that keep the infrastructure working...most of what they do we never see....
ReplyDeleteYou have a gorgeous view.
