Nostalgia Good & Bad

A  L  O  H  A !
Carpenters by Yesterday Once More on Grooveshark
" We could never
 have loved the earth
 so well
if we had had
 no childhood
 in it. "

George Eliot

" If you're yearning
for the good old days,
 just turn off
 the air conditioning. "

Griff Niblack

" Nostalgia is a file
 that removes the
 rough edges
from the good old days. "

Doug Larson

"It's never too late
to be
who you might
 have been."

George Eliot

  =^..^=

Nostalgia
is a visit to
hallways where
you lived,
walked,
 and breathed
a long time ago.

So much comes to mind.
Perspectives emerge,
forgotten joys
live once more
for the moment.

But
you cannot
live there.

We must emerge
as from cinema
into the bright lights
of Now.

Don't remain
in the shadows,
peering out
with suspicion
and derision
at those going about
their lives today.

We call such
shadow dwellers
"Old People."

Don't BE one!

Thanks for YOUR visit, Friend

  1. The good old days are there to stay. One do not even need to remember them for they are there all the time. Great pics Cloudia!

  4. My good old days are the '90's.

You made a great point about good and bad forms of nostalgia. Ultimately, we should savor the present!

Ah ~a little bit of nostalgia now and then is like a cozy afghan on a cold evening.

  6. Perfect timing for this post. I'm sitting here getting all sentimental about my memories in this house. I have one week left here.. and those memories linger on.

  7. I very seldom had much nostalgic feeling until about my 50s. Then it came on all at once and I started working on Days of Beer, and am now working on some more humorous memoir stuff. A flood has opened now.

  9. Love today's wisdom. Ahhh, to have enough memories from the past to be grinning when I get to the nursing home. Scent and aromas can trip you back to memories even faster than music and photos. Hopefully, just good ones! DrumMajor

  10. We never had air conditioning at my homes while growing up in France, but you know, now that I think of it, it was never that warm. Once, it was very warm for 2 days in August and I had to use a fan, and that was the only time I can remember.

  11. Love these quotes. the second one reminded me of what I saw in a café recently: "Please, don't ask us if we have WiFi. We haven't, so now, get back to tyour table and talk to your companions. Thanks."

    Greetings from London.

  12. Aloha Cloudia, it is a place I also travel to often, as it seems to smooth out the edges of a rough day, when ever I do! Enjoy your now time too, all weekend long.

  15. How right you are. Nostalga is a pleasant place to visit - but too confining to live in.
