Come Hula - Come BE

 " The battles that count
aren't the ones
 for gold medals.
The struggles within yourself
 - the invisible, inevitable
battles inside all of us -
that's where it's at. "

Jesse Owens

  "  What a new face
 courage puts
on everything!  "

 Ralph Waldo Emerson

" You must look
 into other people
as well as
at them. "

Lord Chesterfield

“That was a perfect set,”
kumu hula Mapuana de Silva
told her women. . . her face glowing with pride.
She said that she chose [Queen] Liliu‘okalani’s music
to “celebrate the senses of love,
 its sounds, touches
 and tastes,
and to bring the ha‘ena
(glowing breath of life) here.”

Mapuana de Silva
is just the loveliest person.

I have lived Hawaii
for almost 30 years
and have never seen her,
in a photo,
at a performance,
a weird camera angle
at a live TV event,
I have NEVER
seen Mapuana
that she is not
smiling her sincere,
amazing SMILE.

Do an image search
on her name;
Get ready to
smile.

She is a top level
Kumu Hula
(Teacher, source,
spiritual leader-
choreographer,
cultural/language
expert,
and more!)

But it is her Aloha
that inspires on
every level,
in all she does,
far beyond her
hula family.

I hope these
shots inspire
YOUR day!

               Warmly, cloudia

  3. Nice photos and link. I could watch them for hours. The Islands are beautiful, but it's people, their spirit and aloha make Hawaii so wonderful to visit.

  6. They sure did, even my muse is moving to a Hula. My sister-in-law brought back a little hula outfit for my daughter when she was about 2. I'll have to dig up that picture! Great memories and so much love doing the hula dance.
