" Life loves
to be taken by
the lapel and told,
'I'm with you kid.
Let's go.' "
Maya Angelou
Any piece of writing,
from a letter to a book
can fly or
it can fail.
It might be a Palace
of Thought, Wonder,
Delight.
Or it may be
just a pile of words,
taking the same hours
of assembly
but never taking off.
Think of a violin.
(Did you HEAR
a violin when you
thought of it?)
A woman good with
tools, could cut,
shape, polish,
all of the parts
that go into a violin.
But an instrument maker
turns those same parts
into an instrument,
not just a novelty.
It takes more
than piling up words
to make sense,
to persuade, to heal.
Too many books
are false fronts like a
pioneer town.
I trust few words.
Among them:
"Thank You, dear Friends"
I like to mean
what I say.
Fondly, Cloudia

I have read such a lot of Maya Angelou and admire her greatly - she talks such a lot of sense.
ReplyDeleteYour words stack up nicely.

books as false fronts! hum, very interesting. I'm gonna have to give that some thought.
ReplyDeletea pile of words. i like that.
ReplyDeleteInteresting comments about words. I think there is obviously using words honestly and falsely, but there is also much joy (I think) to be found in wordplay. Words, language is an amazing, wonderful, powerful thing. Have a lovely day Cloudia.
ReplyDeleteI like pile of words.
ReplyDeleteThat image of children at the shore, and the thought of a pile of words...
ReplyDeleteOne day people will be posting beautiful images with quotes signed 'Cloudia' .. it's true!
ReplyDeleteOh I do love that top shot. Good to see that Diamond Head is in view.
ReplyDeleteEach of you is received here with joy!
ReplyDeleteThanks So Much ♥
I am a lover of words. I rustle through them, pull them snuggly up around my ears and, occasionally, throw them...
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely words.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your suggestion of my writing.

It's like saying talk is easy. doing it is hard.
You are on a roll with your wise woman philosophizing, Ms. Cloudi!
ReplyDeleteI like piles of words also...makes me want to dig into the pile and line them all up...and then toss them back down to see what some one else will find
