How often we act
before we think.
Usually this works out
very well for us;
Concentrating on every
routine task would be
exhausting.
We stop at red lights
without inner debate
or wasted time.
Efficient, see?
Human relations
though
DO require thought.
When we respond
automatically to a stimulus
like real or perceived rudeness
an unpredictable chain of events
begins,
one rail car draws the next,
and we are on board
before we know it!
You do not know
if the other will apologize,
smile, or "snap"
and retaliate
automatically.
If someone is stressed
and ready to break
do you want to be present,
much less the cause
and target?
Just asking.
Before responding to another
there is a golden moment.
Do not retaliate reflexively.
It may be that the other
will soon apologize
IF YOU
leave them that space.
If not,
it is not Your role
to educate or correct.
Think of it this way:
How well do You
accept correction
from random strangers?
One of life's great axioms:
"Don't Take It Personally."
It sounds wise.
Practicing it is a challenge,
but one that will pay you
for the rest of your life.
" Learn to pause...
or nothing worthwhile
will catch up to you. "

Thank YOU
for looking in
Warmly, Cloudia
Rapidly evolving situations require quick and decisive action. That the wrong choice may be made is why we each have our own Secretary of State mode. It is man's nature though to violate, incarcerate or kill, as a solution do discussion gone off the rails.
ReplyDeleteThis is very thoughtful, Cloudia.
ReplyDeleteexcellent and wise words Cloudia… this describes the intentional efforts of attempting to live a more peaceful home-life with adolescents so well… not to mention everywhere else, in all other relationships. That pause is golden… sometimes the desired response from the other person does not materialize, still it is healthy modeling and at least one of us is able to bathe in the momentary pause.
ReplyDeleteBEautiful photos my friend.
Happy Friday
ReplyDeleteI don't accept criticism from random strangers well. That is for sure.
ReplyDeleteit is hard not to react. :)
ReplyDeletelove the lobby shadows!
Thanks, Friends
ReplyDeleteYikes, I sure don't want to jump aboard any rail car like that! It is easy to do, especially in traffic! Pausing and many deep breaths helps lots. May you have nothing but happy, smiling faces greeting you all day long! :)
ReplyDeleteappreciate that, K
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots, Cloudia. The interplay of that staircase's shadow on the building's quite striking.
ReplyDeleteLike the blue yellow wall.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
Pauses are indeed golden. And precious. And allow growth.
ReplyDeleteSome pauses do refresh......the spirit
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots Claudia, and more wise words to ponder and remember.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more Cloudia, words spoken in haste can sometimes take forever, or never to recover from.
ReplyDeleteThis is excellent advice, that I sometimes forget. Thank you for the reminder.
