A Hush Over the Crowd

A  L  O  H  A !
" Perfection is a trifle dull.
It is not the least
of life's ironies
that this, which
we all aim at,
is better not
quite achieved. "
                   Somerset Maugham

“The broad-minded see
the truth in
different religions;
 the narrow-minded see
only the differences”
                       Chinese Proverb

“Spread love
everywhere you go:
 First of all
in your own house...
let no one ever come to you
without leaving better and happier.
 Be the living expression
of God's kindness;
kindness in your face,
 kindness in your eyes,
kindness in your smile,
 kindness.”
                      Mother Teresa

What are you
spreading around?

I'm making up for
all the disharmony
I spread before:
"Get OUT of MY Way!"

One thing I share
is music.
Never without
my little

Was at the Busiest
Costco in the Chain
(Iwilei, Honolulu)
the other day.

It was a mad house!

The crowd at the check-out
was restless for
Hawaii people.

Everyone in Hawaii
knows "Hawaii Aloha"
many events,
including the legislative
session, open with
this song.

So I like to start
with Hawaii Aloha,
then segue into
Aloha `Oe
to respect this place,
the spirits that linger,
and any local person
in earshot.

I began playing.

A hush.

Then soft singing
by some present.

The time flew by
and it was my turn.

Folks let me know
that they liked it.

Once a woman told me:
"You changed the whole
atmosphere in here!"

What a gift
to be able to
do that!
The gift of music.

Then I left.

Everyone's day
was better after that.
Or so I like to believe.

Just let your ego go
and BLOW!

Here's a quick & dirty
recording of me
jazzing up those
venerable songs:

                       Love, cloudia

  1. What a lovely song! It was inspirational to play that for the people waiting at Cosco. You are so wise; it should be a duty for us to spread joy to others and bolster their spirits!

  6. What an amazing post! So, you're like the Pied Piper with your ocarina, turning rats into human beings at Costco. I love the picture of the narrow space between the buildings and the quote you chose to match with it. When you go to Costco during the Xmas rush lines, you'll probably need an electric guitar and portable amp to get everyone boogie-in' down instead of grumbling about the lines.

  14. I like your story about Costco, Cloudia. Good for you. Thanks for sharing the link about the Ocarina. I went over there and listened to the music and read about it. This may be the Husband's birthday present this year. I'll get one, too, so I can join in. Why should he have all the fun. :-)
