Got My Lion Luck!

A  L  O  H  A !
Lion Dancing at Chinese New Year Time
is one of my favorite things in the world.

So we were seated by the window of
Yet Wah Restaurant in San Rafael
eagerly anticipating dancing
lions and tons of great noise.
[The one time of year I like noise]

I saw a fit teenage girl lion dancing in
Honolulu in recent years. And we
remarked on it. It's always been
a boy thing. But look! Girls
really eager to do their moves.
You GO Girls!

I was impressed by their preparation

"There's only one thing
I never did and
wish I had done:
climbed over a fence. "
                  Queen Mary

I bet these girls
climb anything
they want to!

 Lion Heads UP!
Headed inside!

This is no One-Lion town!

They like to go up high
and look around

Distracted by Take-Out

Back to the work at hand:
eating those tasty and
lucrative Red Envelopes!

"Lions are so BIG!
My camera is
so small."
She thinks to herself

The Lion's Heartbeat.
Rhythm of the dance.

 These lions
did NOT stop moving!

 Who has who?
Dad approves.
Brother is
less certain.

 I like how both patrons
have their fingers
in their ears.
[We were wearing
our earplugs, as
do the participants.
NOT my first lion dance!]

  10. I don't think most people realize what strength and endurance it takes to do the Lion Dancing. My muscular nephew actually had to stop doing it because he hurt his back.

  11. Now that you've seen this in San Rafael you should head to San Francisco to see the Lion Dance next year! (I lived for many years in both cities.)

  12. Thanks for these comments! Yes, San Francisco throbs with lions at CNY. Next year I'll know my way around better!
