The Seal, The Ant, and Ducks

A L O H A From Honolulu!
On Saturday morning
I walk to the beach.

It's just a short distance from
where I walk by every morning;
But on Saturday I cross Kalia
and walk down Paoa Place
between the Hale Koa,
and the Hilton.

Today I saw a black feral cat
catch a grey dove
pulling it down!

But perhaps being unschooled
in the hunt, or surprised,
kitty lost her grip in the flutter
as dove flew up and away.
What else will we see?

A blessed haze lies upon all
this region, wherein is held
a little more of the sunlight
than other places hold,
and a little more of the
summer's humming music
of birds and bees; so that
men walk through it
as through a faery place,
and feel greater joy and
wonder than they ever
afterward remember.

Resting Hawaiian Monk Seal! Full grown!

Ocean is more ancient
than the mountains, and
freighted with the memories
and the dreams of Time.

Laziness Personified.
We do not see them
hunting, and traveling
hundreds of
miles at sea!

  2. When I saw the title of today's post, I was expecting you to either have pictures of clouds shaped like a seal, an ant, and a duck, OR a quote with a joke that starts, "A seal, an ant, and a duck walked into a bar..." But no, you have pictures of a real live seal, and a real live ant, and two real live ducks (and Pixie wishing she could play with them at home). Cool post!

  6. That seal looks so relaxed!
JB saw a hawk go after a pigeon in town. It's a dog eat dog world! That circle of life!

  8. I'll bet the monk seals are happy there aren't as many tourists around to disturb him.

The craziest thing we ever saw was when a cockroach came out of our car, climbed on the roof and got thrown into the air by a gust of wind. A mynah came out of nowhere and caught it midflight for its dinner.
