My spirit soars
where the air goes thin.

It's awfully important to know what
is and what isn't your business.
   Gertrude Stein

The three great elemental sounds
in nature are the sound of rain,
the sound of wind in a primeval wood,
and the sound of outer ocean
on a beach.

Earth Teach Me

Earth, teach me quiet
as the grasses are still
with new light.

Earth, teach me suffering
as old stories suffer
with memory.

Earth, teach me humility
as blossoms are humble
with beginning.

Earth, teach me caring
as mothers nurture their young.

Earth, teach me courage as
the tree that stands alone.

Earth teach me limitation
as the ant that crawls
on the ground.

Earth teach me freedom
as the eagle that soars
in the sky.

Earth teach me acceptance
as the leaves that
die each fall.

Earth teach me renewal~
as the seed that rises
in the spring.

Earth teach me to
forget myself
as melted snow
forgets its life.

Earth teach me to
remember kindness
as dry fields
weep with rain.

  5. When we were in Maui we went up Haleakalā. It was November so I got to throw snowballs.

  6. I love how you spread the Ute Prayer over so many wonderful photos. LOVE the snow on those mountains, the dog, and the rainbow. Pixie, too of course. LOVE that mural on the building, but also love the palm tree in the photo, too.

  11. Oh my gosh! I had to call Art over to see Mauna Kea. He's from the Big Island so he was extra impressed.
