California oak so strong and brown,

Whispers tales of ages flown. Of shamans' chants and hunters' calls, Before highways and shopping malls.

Before the ships before the plow, She knew the deer, the

hawk on her bough

Under her shade, the elders sat Weaving stories passing chat. Children danced their laughter light, As acorns tumbled brown and bright.
