Baal Shem Tov
Whenever the devil
harasses you,
seek the company of people
or drink more,
or joke and talk nonsense,
or do some other merry thing.
Sometimes we must drink more,
sport, recreate ourselves,
and even sin a little
to spite the devil.

there is one spectacle

that is the interior

What sunshine is to flowers,
smiles are to humanity.
These are but trifles,
to be sure; but scattered
along life's pathway,
the good they do
is inconceivable.

ReplyDeleteTake care, have a happy day and a great week ahead!
Dear Cloudia,
ReplyDeleteMartin Luther suggested "sport"? I doubt this is an actual quote from Luther—no one did sports in Luther's time (1483 to 1546). I wanted to know more, so I did some research: There's nothing comparable in German (Luther's language). There is no definitive source that verifies this quote from Luther's writings. However, there is a quote by Niccolò Machiavelli (1469-1527), Italian politician, writer, historian, and a contemporary of Martin Luther, that begins similarly: "When the devil wants to confuse people, ... (...he uses idealists for this purpose.)" The exact wording could come from a different context or be a modern interpretation – I suspect someone cobbled together something from various quotes and then simply wrote Luther's name underneath... and now it's falsely circulating on the internet as a Luther quote...
Otherwise: Again, very beautiful pictures and quotes, and a sweet little Pixie whose head I'd also like to scratch.
All the best, Traude

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2025/03/more-floral-fantasies-philly-flower-show.html
The Luther quote surprises me but it shouldn’t bc certain Christians did not have such a dim view of alcohol like many contemporary evangelicals.
ReplyDeleteOh wow; look at those beautiful skies!
ReplyDelete"smiles are to humanity." Remember also, laughing is good for your health.
ReplyDeleteThe skies are absolutely beautiful.
