Greed for Freedom

"I look upon every day to be lost, in which I do not make a new acquaintance."

James Boswell 1784

"Once you start to see through the myth of status, possessions, and unlimited consumption as a path to happiness, you'll find that you have all kinds of freedom and time. It's like a deal you can make with the universe: I'll give up greed for freedom. Then you can start putting your time to good use." David Edwards

Not all bad: "Millionaires in the U.S. lost 30% of their fortunes on average. Almost 20% of them lost 40%." Bloomberg News

"Awake! For morning in the Bowl of

Night

Has flung the Stone that puts the Stars to

Flight:

And lo! The Hunter of the East has caught

The Sultan's Turret in a noose of light."

from Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, translated by Edward Fitzgerald

  2. Hi Cloudia, I see that you have fixed the timer on your blog to reflect local Hawaii time. Good!

Hope you have access to your blog stats, too. It's always fun to know the number of visits your blog gets each day.

  3. It has been forever since I was on the beach and looking at the Royal Hawaiian. We had mountains of snow here, with ice on top of it.

  6. That David Edwards quote is right up my alley!
James Boswell would have lost fewer days if bloghsphere had existed then :-D though I don’t really agree with him. How would I have time for my beloved friends if I would have to make a new acquaintance (and possible friend) each day?
Great quotes, Cloudia – btw I just made a silly test that tells you where you actually should live – out came Hawaii – so be prepared:)

Hi, Gigi: Blogger must have fixed it. I love my comments and subscribers!!

Dave King: Thanks, poetry guy ;-)

    A. Lincoln: Ah, still dreaming of the Royal Hawaiian! And no wonder, though your world looks marvelous on your blog!

Charles: I'm glad you like it too.

Ake: YES I did! Just noticed this forlorn cement alcove with brilliant flowers and sunshine outside. "Self" I said, "That would make a great picture!" Thanks!

Deborah: Your words are truly music to my ears. Mahalo.

Fida: So glad to have you back!

  9. Oops, I guess I spoke too soon. The clock on your blog still posts the wrong time. I posted my first comment after midnight, not after 2 a.m.
