Here's Duke at Waikiki with Babe Ruth! |
"I swing big,
with everything I've got.
I hit big or I miss big.
I like to live as big as I can."
Babe Ruth
Babe Ruth is famous
for his home run record,
but few realize
that for decades he also held
the record for strikeouts.
He hit 714 home runs,
struck out 1,330 times
in his career.
He said:
"Every strike
brings me closer
to the next home run."
When Hawaii's most famous citizen died,
the Honolulu Star-Bulletin called Duke:
"the Babe Ruth of swimming and surfing."
He will live forever
in the hearts of Hawaii
in the hearts of Hawaii
and of surfers everywhere.
