Grandma's Hands

Grandmas Hands by Bill Withers on Grooveshark

Looking at the keyboard in front of me,
I see my Grandma's
hands

Grandma's mother and father
brought her to America
when she was just a little girl.
They had a small hardware store
where they worked very hard,
just like the people in this picture,
immigrants to America. . .
And so the story goes.

Morning Moon on the Sea

" A dreamer is one
who can only find his way
by moonlight,
and his punishment is
that he sees the dawn
before the rest of the world.  "

Oscar Wilde

" Follow your inner moonlight;
don't hide the madness.  "

Allen Ginsberg

I inherited
my grandma's laugh.

It gives me more pleasure
every day
than any amount
of money.

A very practical  woman,
it is as if I can hear her,
close,
close as the lessons she taught me:

"NO amount?!
How `bout a
MILLION DOLLARS!

Take the money,
Hon."

Good old practical Grandma

  1. I look like my late father and one of his friends told me that I joke like him, too. I guess I do find humor in most situations like he did. A good legacy.

That first photo is so touching - we are going through something like that with my mother now. She is bent over and can't look you in the eye. But we surroud her with love.

  2. Somehow I managed to leave half my comment on the previous post.

The other half was to say that Morning Moon on the Sea is absolutely stunning.
    Many congratulations on it.

  5. My father had long feet. My mother had wide feet. I have long wide feet. And a black sense of humour which inheritance came from both sides.
I never knew my grandparents on either side.
This is a beautiful post Cloudia. Thank you.

  10. My Dad left me his migraines, thanks Dad haha! No really a lot more than that, his extremely strong constitution and stubborn will. My Mum left me her compassion and gentle nature and thank goodness her gorgeous skin.. Aimee is so like my Mum in so many ways, I feel I still have her with me.
Love the 'Morning moon on the sea' image Cloudia, so very, very artistic.

  11. Just her name Grandma, brings floods of memories. Everyday scents are linked to my Grandma. All my most beloved keepsake memories are from her. As are the smart simple things she taught me. Never has a woman been in my thoughts more....especially now that she is gone. I too see my Grandmother's smile....!

  18. People many times talk Russian to me, even though it were my great-grant parents who came from there.

Maybe a hint, that I should learn the language as well. The were farmers. I love bread and food 'from earth'.

Please have you all a kind Wednesday.

  19. My grandmother raised me. She gave me so much, but unfortunately I did not inherit her personality. She was assertive, strong willed, strong period. Well, maybe I'm strong in different ways.

Thanks for bringing back the memory.

  20. Wonderful post and beautiful pictures too. I also remember my grandma's hands and long black braids I loved her so much (and still do) and she loved me back. That is her legacy to me - she taught me how to love.

I believe Oscar Wilde is very underappreciated in our culture.
