Nature Neutered

"We must, indeed, all hang together,
or most assuredly
we shall all hang separately."

Benjamin Franklin

the Declaration of Independence,

Is there ANYthing
that Americans can agree on
today?

Nature Substitute,  KEEP OUT

"Joni Mitchell said this
about writing the song BIG YELLOW TAXI
to journalist Alan McDougall in the early 1970s:

' I wrote 'Big Yellow Taxi'
on my first trip to Hawaii.
I took a taxi to the hotel and when I woke up the next morning,
I threw back the curtains and saw these beautiful green mountains in the distance.
Then, I looked down and there was a parking lot
as far as the eye could see, and it broke my heart...
this blight on paradise.
That's when I sat down and wrote the song '  "

  3. That is an interesting question about whether there is anything we can agree on anymore. We truly have become so divided that within a hundred feet of any given issue you will find forty opinions.

Like the governments latest attack on women's right to choose what is correct for their health care needs. I watched that hot mess in Issa's committee yesterday and all I saw was a bunch of fat old clerics making noise about their religious policy concerning birth control...then the second panel finally had two women on it that purported to represent 150+million American women.

I know it's all politics and that makes it 75% bullshit but these people are supposed to be directing the business of the nation not the sexual practices of the individual or the religious freedoms of others.

I think for example that because some among us are trying to turn this beautiful land of ours into a Christian based theocracy and giving preachers more and more latitude to preach politics from the pulpit then the first amendment should allow all of their holdings to be taxed at individual rates.

No I think McConnel and his "Our first priority above everything else is to make Obama a one term president" has just about fractured us to the point where gangrene is not far off.

  6. What frightens me most about the intense partisanism is the lack of long term memory ... we did not get here into this mess over the last 4 years ..

  7. Unfortunately, sociopathy seems adaptive in our current society.

  8. If we are the image of God, God has a dark side.

It is certainly a shame that we are paving over paradise. It's enormously stupid here in Southern Ontario - we have a lot of great farmland, all being taken up by the cities - this being the most populous area in the entire country.

  20. I bet the nearby open areas of Ft. DeRussy is something to be appreciated. With Mz. Mitchell can go either way, she never went to Woodstock but wrote the song about it and profited from it.

  21. Your photos are always a delight. Thank you. I had not know where Joni Mitchell's inspiration came from. She was right though. Have a great weekend.
