According to Democritus
our eye can see
only because
 objects broadcast

replicas
of themselves

Eidola
 that are but
an atom thick.

How thick
are the pixels
by which we
bloggers show
our imaginations,
and images
to one another?

Morning After

A   L   O   H   A  !
The Morning After by Maureen McGovern on Grooveshark
I love
"The Day After."

For many
in the path of the storm,
the day after
is Day One
of a long haul;

Perhaps the first day
of a new way of life
without home,
livelihood,
or loved ones.

They won't be
forgotten.

 But for most of us,
the lucky ones,
we return
to the blessings
usually too 'normal'
to be noticed.

The dew,
 'Tis of the tears
 which stars weep,
sweet
 with joy. ”
Philip James Bailey

Tsunami Saturday Night

A   L   O   H   A  !
Another Saturday Night by Sam Cooke on Grooveshark
It had been a fun Saturday.

Sunset
heralded a relaxing evening at home.

 The moon was almost full.
Honolulu was buzzing
with Halloween Hi-Jinks.

Then it all went sideways:

!TSUNAMI    WARNING!

Living on our boat
for 20 years,
we had run from two
tsunami alerts!

But this time
we could watch it all
from the 35th floor
of our apartment building-

- MUCH nicer experience!

I wish I could describe
the sounds of multiple sirens
at varying distances,
the traffic,
the media hub-bub,
the government proclamations,
traffic jams,
traffic accidents. . .
The confusion
and expectation.

I wish I could show you
the lighted boats:
from commercial shipping,
to small private craft,
to the Coast Guard-
that all left the harbor
to bob on the dark horizon
like a flotilla
of stars.

I especially loved
the row of tug boats
that went out like
a family of
bright ducks.

Soon the streets
were silent.

Hawaii Waited.

We had seen significant
D A M A G E
from the Japanese Tsunami
of March 2011.

We were lucky

this time.

This morning,
all the ships returned.

Hints Ineffable

A   L   O   H   A  !

 " - our present life
is a glimpse,
 a fragment,
 a hint,
 and in its best moments
 a visible beginning. "

Josiah Royce

 From that first lighted
 window,
that early morning hint,
Something beckoned
playful & significant
leading me on
hide & seek
through my day.

Where is this
path of clouds
leading?

 Everything I saw
walking through Waikiki

-so full of color,
movement, light-

seemed but the
reflection
of some greater
Color, Movement
L I G H T.

Passing by
I was drawn
to the Open Door
as a photo op.

I set up the shot
several times
but the
Light
remained.
Couldn't 'clear'
my capture.

I sensed
that it hovers there
in fond blessing
of those who
enter.

It beckoned to me
with friendly love.

Kissed
by Angels.

Right?

Walking along
I looked,
then looked again:
a tiny face
was looking back.

The world is full
of friends
if we only
notice them.
