Hawaiian Monk Seal & Carroll Cox

A  L  O  H  A !
 Let's go for a drive
along Oahu's Kaiwi Coastline
past Sandy Beach
(where the President famously
body surfed)

Carroll had something to show me.

Wait, those aren't rocks;
There's a mother Hawaiian Monk Seal
and her young pup!

Look at mom's contented face

Sweet Baby

Look at the flipper! That tail!

Nursing Baby

The Hawaiians of old

named this creature:

 “llio holo I ka uaua”

"Dog that runs in rough water"

You can learn more about these "living fossils"
 here:   LINK

Much gratitude to the selfless volunteers
 who protect and inform.
They know these individual seals,
their stories, births, habits,
adventures. . .

Thanks, Carroll!

  5. Aloha Cloudia and Carroll and these adorable seals! At first I almost had to click off. I feared that Mommy seal was not doing so well- so happy I said tuned in. But this message is so important! May all the creatures in and out of the water live a long and blessed life!

  6. Really nice seal friend with Mr. Cox. Saw a seal on Kauai, and met the conservation guy, who knew all about the seal by their tag number. He ribboned off an area around the seal, but we could take pics. Better than any paid tour. Seems the protecting guys hop island to island when alerted of beach sitings. Thanks for the protectors and educators. DrumMajor

  13. I've been a volunteer, but never a selfless one. I know there are selfless ones, but I also know I do not tend to be selfless in general(though I've had moments here & there of). ~Mary
