Slice

A L O H A  From

H O N O L U L U

The more you extend
kindness to yourself, the
more it will become your
automatic response
to others.
    Wayne Dyer

As for old age,
embrace and love it.
It abounds with pleasure
if you know how to use it.
The gradually declining years
are among the sweetest
in a man's life, and I
maintain that, even when
they have reached the
extreme limit, they have
their pleasure still.
Seneca

I sense a gaze
behind my back—
Is it a friend,
or maybe a cat?

You’re like pizza—
even when I’m
not hungry, I still
want a slice!

There once was a chef,
they called Stumpy,
A pig with a hat,
never grumpy.
His trotters so small,
Could whisk sauces for all,
And his dishes were
never clump lumpy!

  1. There is a quiet richness in the later years, where reflection deepens joy and presence becomes its own reward

  3. Oh my! Pixie wants to slice and dice that poor bird to make cardinal hash for dinner. You can keep the cat away from predators, but you can't take the predator out of the cat! Lovely post today. I love that ditty about the porky pig restaurant.

  6. Love the first from Seneca, and the way you placed the photo of Pixie looking up at the beautiful photo of the bird, with caption to tie them together. Stumpy seemed a bit garish, holding up ham while having a wooden leg. But that's carnivores for you!

  9. Aging is so difficult for many. My parents never quite came to terms with it. It's tough. Wise words, my friend.

  17. Of course I love your quotations and poems, especially that one about old age (you can guess why!) And Pixie is a beautiful cat, but please don't really let her eat that beautiful bird -- just let her dream of her ancestors when there were so many more birds and that natural cat behavior was OK. Sadly, nowadays not.
