a term for it:

"Grooming Language."

When primates are

together, they

groom one another.

Simple enough.

But when the job

is done,

they carry on

touching, stroking,

attending.

This "Grooming Behavior"

strengthens social bonds

and health.

I have not 

combed out my 

neighbors-

BUT

The routine things

we say,

that have no

practical utility

are Grooming Language.

No one needs

to say it's a cold

[or hot] day"

And few really

CARE about 

"How is your day going"?

In New York

it is quick:

"How you doin?"

And the answer

is: "Good."

Just as quick,

but effective.

"God be with you"

May seem routine,

even pointless sometimes.

As pointless as breathing
