Vintage Car Memories

A  L  O   H   A  !

The other day,
my normal Waikiki routine
 turned into
British Motoring
 Festival Day!

This beauty at the Post Office
screamed

"LOTUS!"

[ and whispered:
'Get IN' ]

It was stirring a memory. . .
laying practically on my back
like watching TV in bed. . . .

oh yes!

Dad's yellow Jaguar-

Seems to me, I only rode in it once.
[I was on my own by then.]
But that ride was memorable.
One thing I DO remember:
It was finicky about starting
in the rain.

A Ford Transit
 sat nearby

Nice size
 for a business on an
 island.

the Transit is Not TOO big, like some
vehicles I could mention. . .

 HEY! A few blocks away:
Another British motoring icon!

But I couldn't get that small van
out of my mind;
It was evoking
 something,
something from childhood.

But what?

GOT IT !

Going to work for the day
with Dad in his
"English Ford."

This was before 'compact cars'

when the Volkswagen
was still new
-and strange-
to those accustomed to
BIG American Cars !

Funny
how EVERYTHING
can bring you back around
to something you
keep remembering
anyway.

Often when driving
I remember one of the things
he said near the end:

"I just wish I could
drive my car."

Remembering that
brings joy
back to driving,
and dissolves
traffic blues.

Miss ya Dad

& Thanks to YOU, my friend
for looking in

" If anything,
there's a sort of stigma
around doing good deeds
that's maybe not so cool.
I'm doing everything I can. . .
to figure out a way
we can make it cool,
or normal
to be kind
and loving. "

Lady Gaga

Music & Nostalgia
are sisters.

Music helps to make
and to mark
a certain moment
in Our Time.

Everyone
can love the Beatles
but only a lucky few
get to hear them
as a fresh new sound
at just the right
age !

Watching the old kinescope
even the Stones
seem sedate.

That "Damned Jungle Music"
was actually quite
musical.

Hard to remember,
to realize,
just how New
it all
once sounded.

Do YOU remember?

Expert Predictions!

A   L   O   H   A  !

That's ME!

“X-rays will prove to be a hoax.”

Lord Kelvin,
British physicist 1899

“Printed books
will never be the equivalent
of handwritten codices,
 especially since printed books
 are often deficient in spelling
 and appearance.”

Johannes Trithemius,
 German abbot and scholar
 “In Praise of Scribes”
 1492

" ENIAC is equipped with 18,000 vacuum tubes

 and weighs 30 tons,

computers in the future

may have only 1,000 vacuum tubes

and weigh only 1.5 tons.”

Popular Mechanics
 1949

What do the experts know?
My laptop
weighs in at only
One Ton
and uses only
Three Vacuum Tubes!

These days,
I seem to be learning
all the things
that I have been
wrong
about.

Once past the
embarrassment
it's actually been
liberating.

What have
Y O U
been wrong about?

Thanks for visiting today
