it is nothing but a

because of it the whole

Are you looking for gold, friend? Look around you; anything useful to you is pure gold, pure silver! Mehmet Murat ildan

A circle is the

It has no beginning and
it has no end -
and if you put several circles

you get a spiral.

Proud

A L O H A From Honolulu!

Every path,

every street in the world is your

walking meditation path.

Nhat Hanh

Candid shot on the fly.

I never want to make anyone uncomfortable,
though anything/anyone visible to the
public is legally fair game for a photo.

So I am expert at swinging
around like a tourist appearing to
take random shots,
grabbing a snap on the fly. . .
occasionally yielding:
A Photograph.

VERY Proud of this young man.
Son of my good friends - Ohana really -
Genshu Price.

Dad Mike suggested that G collect deposit bottles
and cans to help fund his college. (G is 13)
Well, Genshu took it to the extreme the way energetic, smart, young people do when supported.

Bottles4College is a 501-c
Nonprofit that has partners at schools,
markets, and restaurants around our island!

Mom Maria Price (a WONDERFUL friend and
incidentally EXCELLENT Oahu Realtor)
took this photo on Friday Oct 1
by the Queen Liliuokalani statue
at Hawaii's State Capitol after
Genshu was recognized with an
award by the legislature!

Follow your path,

and let the people talk.

Pixie, get the dust buster!

Be proud of every scar

on your heart,

each one holds a

lifetime's worth of lessons.

Over The Rainbow in Waikiki

A  L  O  H  A !
"Don't leave Hawaii.
You can never come back."
That's what the
local people say.

The lure of owning a home,
of better wages, the heat. . . .
It all tempts Hawaii residents
to go California, or
Vegas, or Seattle.

But once you are there ,
Hawaii calls
in a million and one ways.
The warmth of her people,
the technicolor skies and
mountains,not to mention
Hawaii's food and music!

All have a way of calling
in your dreams
like a siren song.

I heard that song for almost
four years in California.
And coming back ISN'T easy!

But today I write to you
from my Waikiki
of almost 30 years.

Home Again.

Brother IZ Surfboard

I will never leave my friends,
family and islands again.
Welcome back!
We are in Waikiki together once again.
Truly. Somewhere over the rainbow.

Mahalo for your visit.
You are MOST welcome here!

Street Smarts

A L O H A !

" We never really grow up,
we only learn how
to act in public. "
Bryan White

" Enjoy
 the little things,
for one day
you may look back
and realize they
were the big things. "
                         Robert Brault

A perennial quote
well worth repeating.
Like a mantra.
cloudia

" You get tough
when you grow up
unloved.
People described me
as a boyish girl -
rather shy, but I didn't show it.
I had an attitude.
I was rather wild. "
                       Maj Sjowall

As an adult,
I realize that
 though I was not
loved as I wanted,
or needed at the time.
I WAS loved.
cloudia

" The greatest day in your life
and mine is when we take total
responsibility for our attitudes.
That's the day we truly grow up. "
                                    John C. Maxwell

['^']

Are You street smart,
do you look both ways?

That's one kind.

The deeper ways
of Street Smart
were taught me
young
by my father,
a city boy
who was in WWII
and raised me
in a new suburban home
on a new street
in a new subdivision
where I went
to a new school
outside his old City.

The new adventure:
SPACE.
[God Speed John Glenn!]

So I'm walking in
The City
with my dad,
down a gritty sidewalk
wider than our street.

The air is full
of sounds and smells.

Nothing is new.

Buildings various
in age, style, height,
profused
before my green
suburban eyes.

Classic rube pose:
eyes up high.
Classic line:
"Lookit all them
tall bildins!"

Dad didn't smack me
on the back of the head,
but he didn't have to.

His reaction
and horror
were imprint enough
[this is over 50 years ago]

" You DON'T walk
on the sidewalk
looking UP!"
He said.
I can hear
his inflection.

"Look like you
know where you are,
like you belong there,
like you know
where you are going,
Don't stand out
as a stranger."

To this day,
I behave
as if I belong
everywhere I go
no matter
how different
in geography
or culture.

This trait
has gotten me
into some
really
cool places.

It must have
gotten me
into a few
rough places
and close calls
as well.
But I can't recall any!

Oh well,
such is vie!

I traveled by train
into the city
by age 14,
disappearing
for the day.
[before mobile phones
and helicopter parents].

I made the City
mine too
with knowledge
and experience,
places and people.

Today, "children"
skype parents daily
from college!

I had my own apt
at age 16.

Maybe I grew up
too fast.

But dad respected
people who worked,
and paid their way.

I always will too.

Some of us
contribute else
than paychecks now.

I prepare
a modest feast
for Friends.

And YOU
make it so
by visiting!

Thank You Friend!

Island of Misfit Relationships

A  L  O  H  A !

It takes two.
Even a saint cannot
repair a damaged relationship.

All you can do
is behave as your best self,
and limit contact.
[even when you are together]

Your courtesy,
non-violent manner,
- even friendly overture -
cannot effect repair
unless the other party
wants it,
is capable,
can even SEE
the overture!

Linking to Weekend Reflections

Some can only
run the scripts
that they have always run,
forcing you into
the role assigned to you.

That's all that
they can see.

They're not even present
to themselves.
It's not your failure
but the nature of
free will.

Don't slam doors,
or say in anger
the thing they will
repeat.

Just continue
on your happy way. . .

Damaged relationships
do not heal
if neglected.

The forgetting scab forms,
covering unresolved tissues.
You can go on with
your life.

Only when
the possibility of healing
expires
with one side,
does survivor find
the grace to finally
heal it alone.

It is over.
Done.
You may forgive.

Then the scab
 falls away
revealing freshness,
that portends only
good.

Until then
slam no doors
when you get out
to salvage
yourself.

During Holiday Seasons
there is a lot of work,
expectations, and pressure
in the air.

Routines
are disrupted;
And some of us
rely on our routines
to regulate our days.

We may be separated
from companions,
or worse:
our companion animals!

When I get tense
It's does me good
to remember
that I am director
of my own movie.

Call a five minute break.
Assess the scene.

Sometimes, it's what
DOESN'T occur
that makes the piece!
[so it comes off simpler
than it is]

Don't play someone else's
role they've created for you.

Just tell yourself:
"CUT."

Then play it your way,
or not at all.

If voices be raised,
yours need not
be one of them.

Remember:
You are the Star
of your own movie!

Thank You
for your appearance
here!
