Returning Surely

  A  L  O  H  A

From

Honolulu

Evening brings love,
Night brings rest,
Stars lean softly
Against the west.

Dreams unfold
On quiet air—
Morning waits
With hope to spare.

Lady Quail

The California quail,
Callipepla californica.
Notice the forward-curving
black plume, tasteful
patterned buff (female)
and gray-blue body
(males, below)

Quiet feathers, wild spirit.
By Pixie

Rise gently, wander freely,
Little quail
Hidden in the grass.
Where brush is thick,
The quail is clever.
Wise in shadows, seeds,
And sudden flight.

Ahupua`a are
 the traditional ancient
land divisions of
our Hawaiian isles.
This sign represents the
altar of stones (Ahu) marking the
historic boundary. Sacrifice of pig
(Pua`a) were placed
atop the pile.

Each Ahupua`a district
was like a slice of pie:
Thin inland atop the mountain,
broadening out like a pie slice
to encompass a stretch of coast.
The people of each Ahupua`a
enjoyed the bounty of
Mountain, Plains, and the Beach
with it's fish and sea vegetables.

Keep the fires burning!
What You lack today
Shall surely be
Returning.
