A Garden Is A Private World

A L O H A From Honolulu!

The secret of the mountain is that
the mountains simply exist,
as I do myself: the mountains
exist simply, which I do not.
The mountains have no "meaning,"
they are meaning;
the mountains are. Peter Matthiessen

Art & Science

A L O H A From Honolulu!
Chinese New Year/
Lunar New Year
is my favorite time! Photo is
from 2019. This year, again,
will be observed more quietly.
But I WILL hear dancing lions
one way of another! Perhaps
even feed them lucky dollars.
Tuesday, February 1st, 2022
begins the
Year  Of  The  Tiger!

After a period of rain & wind
these glorious skies
uplift my mood and soul!
Spring Feelings. . .

I was cursed or blessed with
a prolonged adolescence;
I arrived at some seeming maturity
when I was past thirty. It was only
in my forties that I really began
to feel young. By then
I was ready for it.
By this time I had
lost many illusions,
but fortunately not
my enthusiasm, nor
the joy of living, nor my
unquenchable curiosity.
   Henry Miller

Even if you cover the
whole world with darkness,
you can never stop the
sun from rising.

Lion Found Me OR Lion Looks

 A  L  O  H  A  !

Never ever doubt in magic.

The purest honest thoughts

come from children, ask

any child if they believe

in magic and they will

tell you the truth.

Scott Dixon

Honolulu: Magic City

Magic is not about having

a puzzle to solve. It's

about creating a moment

of awe and astonishment.

And that can be

a beautiful thing

     David Blaine

One of our Magics is the Lion Dance.

This time of year, Lunar New Year,
the island resounds with cymbals
and drums! The Lions Dance!
And they are not confined
to China Town.
At schools, businesses,
and private homes:
The Lions Dance!

In every normal year,
Chinatown bans cars
and throngs of people
fill the streets, as do many
Lion Dance troops!

Blessing a business NOT in Chinatown

One hears them around a corner,
and turns it to join the

WONDER! FLASH! SMOKE!
FACES! FAMILIES!
W O N D E R!

Little Lions Will Grow. Feed Them!

We feed the lions.
They like dollar bills.
It brings us luck!

On the continent, I did not
see people feeding the lions,
but did so anyway.
One ALWAYS needs luck,
especially far from home.

Shine your soul with the same

egoless humility as the rainbow

and no matter where you go

in this world or the next,

love will find you,

attend you,

and bless you.

       Aberjhani

Spring

Is

Coming!

I'm the only lion you're gonna need!

No public events this year.
We drove Chinatown on
Lunar New Year in search
of lions. But never heard one.

Later, at home,
sitting in my chair,
I heard something
familiar.

I rushed to the window!

And there it was:
It had found me!

Followed by a normal year]

Lunar New Year
is not celebrated only
in a discreet district, or
Honolulu's ChinaTown.

Lions & firecrackers
- even hundred-foot golden dragon-
will be heard and seen EVERYWHERE
in coming days:
Malls, shopping centers, banks
businesses, schools, homes. . .

All events MUST have a
Clipboard Guy!

 Grab your earplugs,
and a dollar or three to feed
the lions. Then your good luck
in the new year
will be assured!

Children and Lions

A   L   O   H   A  !
Children or babies learn to mimic
the vibration of the adults
who surround them long before
they learn to mimic their words.

Children are the hands by which
we take hold of heaven.
        Henry Ward Beecher

Children have such an innocent view of their world

in yourself, is an expensive jewel.

carry it secretly wherever you go.
