Format Your Card

Aloha, Friend!

"Some people, no matter how old they get,
never lose their beauty - they merely move it
from their faces into their hearts."

Martin Buxbaum

can strike any man in the face."

Did you know that the memory card in your camera needs to be "formatted?"

Even if you have been using an SD card for a while, you can still avoid problems by formatting it today!

You go into your camera's "settings"
or "set up"
and look for
'Format.'

This will erase your card,
so make sure your shots are downloaded first.

After you have formatted your card(s)
there is much less chance that the card
will malfunction!

When your computer freezes,
you re-start (re-boot) it right?

Well, your digital camera
uses lines of computer code too.

Once in a while,
it might be a good idea to
"reset" your camera.

Just go back into 'settings'
or 'set up'
and look for 're-set.'

Why not do it
today?

Thanks for visiting!
Please leave your 'hello'
        in comments- warmly, cloudia

Spring Skies of Waikiki

ALOHA, Welcome to Spring!

listen to today's song-

"Most of the shadows of this life
are caused by our standing
in our own sunshine."

 Ralph Waldo Emerson

Though my soul may set in darkness,

it will rise in perfect light.

I have loved the stars too fondly

to be fearful of the night.

Where Hawaii's Water Comes From

Aloha !

Listen to today's song as you read-

Feel Free to Click on the pictures to enlarge them
We are 2,500 miles from the nearest continent.
While the continental US
gets 80% of their drinking water
from rivers and lakes.
There are few of either here
on these islands.

When I lived in Kona,
we collected rain on our tin roof,
channeling it into a big tank:
'catchment water.'

Fortunately, fresh water is abundant here.
The Hawaiian word for fresh water
is Wai.
A rich man is one who has lots of water:
Kanaka Wai Wai
(the name of the song you are listening to :-)

But where does it come from?

The answer is wind & sea.
Warm oceanic air blows onto our islands, and
is forced upward by our forested mountains
where it contracts, cools,
and squeezes out it's moisture.

Our trees collect the virgin mist.
  Newly formed clouds
drop their fresh-made rain,
birthing pristine mountain streams.

The rain  from mountain streams collects in aquifers,
deep in our porous volcanic islands.
This has been going on
for millions of years.

"The islands are progressively younger in geologic age
toward the southeast; Kauai and Ni'ihau are about 5 million years in age,
and the big island of Hawaii is less than 0.5 million years old.. .
The Hawaiian Islands are the exposed summits of the southernmost seafloor mountains, or seamounts, in the Hawaiian-Emperor seamount chain."

We pump it up,
and harvest the life giving water.

Maui's Mount Haleakala alone
provides the Valley Isle with 60 billion gallons
of surface water per year.

Here on Oahu, the Ko`olau Mountains gift us
with 160 billion gallons.

Without that water,
no Hawaii as we know it
for you and for me!

The motto:
E Mālama i ka Wai
means
"Take Care of the Water."

A big Mahalo to Suzanne Case,
executive director of
The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii,

in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Lei Day in Hawaii

ALOHA, Friend!

You already know
that we like to wear flowers. . .

Exotic ones. . . .

Or more common ones
like this plumeria. . . .

A lei of flowers on a humble string
is often the first gift a child gives a parent. . .

May First
is Lei Day here in Hawaii.
The City of Honolulu holds a festival
and gives ribbons to
winning lei.
(Lei is plural and singular.
We don't say "leis.")

We drape horses. . . .

And Kings on their special day. . .

 These humble lei sellers
of Honolulu's past
beckon you to come visit us!

What are you waiting for?

(There IS a 'Honolulu Hotels' link on this blog!  :-)

BIG Photo Tip

Aloha     Friends

Here's a gift, me to you.

I don't claim to be a Photographer,
just someone hooked on taking pictures.

Getting excited about something I see,
crouching low, or climbing on a bench,
capturing that shot of an animal or person
on-the-move,. . .
then sharing it with Y O U
has become a major part of my lifestyle.

I'm never without my camera,
so on a rare night-time jaunt
to Chinatown this weekend,
on a full moon night,
I caught lots of good - no -
GREAT shots
of the action downtown.

 My best shots,
the ones I'm MOST excited about,
live in my camera
viewed on that little screen.

 I cackle as I imagine
what they will look like on the computer screen:
big, and tweaked, and ready to share.
Wait till they (Y O U)
see THIS!

Well here's the tip:
If your camera tells you your SD card
or other media is malfunctioning in some way,
immediately download your treasures.

DON'T (like I did) assume it a camera issue,
remove the batteries for a "hard re-boot"
and go about your business until the
card
goes flooey
and eats your dear wonderful pictures!

*OUCH*

My shimmering crystal dragon
behind the bar of that place!

Full moon over historic buildings!

People shots! Graffiti!
Urban grit,
and beach & sky shots!

That cloud that looked
Like Trump's pompadour!

All GONE.

Bitter bitter LOSS!

Who knew an SD card could go bad?
But like your car: when it politely fore-warns
you listen.

Thus endeth the lesson.

But you know what they say:
"Don't cry over lost pictures."
*Sniff*
in the larger scheme of things
(The Tsunami Test)
it's an IRRITATING
sense of loss - but a small silly one
after all.

The more it 'hurts'
the more real karma is being burned.
Offer it for the souls in purgatory,
or for all sentient beings.
Grow compassion.
Wisdom. Patience.
Damn!

Life is full of ups and downs,
so let this be a 'down.'

I still have a home,
food,
and loved ones.

The body still works
YaY!

Just back up your digital stuff.

Shake it off, Cloudia!
What wonders will I notice and capture
TODAY?
Don't carry the loss into this day;
things will change, (they always do)
including moods.
New pictures will arise.

Please come back and share them.

          Fondly,   cloudia

114 Year Old Man

A L O H A !

Thanks for visiting-

Listen to this forgotten gem:

The 114 year old man says:

"Cherish your friends-

Don't live in the past,

embrace change;

Embrace it!

Only eat 2 meals a day;

Be hungry for life. . . "
