Rejoice with your family
in the beautiful land of life.

Embarrassment lasts
a moment, regrets

Happiness is
The hush after thunder
In the orchard of quiet things.
I'm a creature of peace
And of wonder
Appreciating what life brings. My heart is
not swollen with longing
nor shrunken by regret,
I'm steady as a lantern
Continually reset.

Quiet Bell

 A L O H A  From
H  O  N  O  L  U  L  U
Gratitude
O quiet bell
echo my valleys
With all that's gone well.

Let me rest here,
In golden sun
cradled atop the mountain
Of all I've become.

Happiness is not
a matter of intensity
but of balance, order,
rhythm and harmony.

A good feeling is trying
to break back in.
Insinuating itself, to
make itself at home.
I will make it welcome.
Then together we can
face whatever comes up.

Alchemical Attention

 A L O H A  From

H  O  N  O  L  U  L  U

 With the power of
our attention alone,
we can transform each moment,
each relationship,
in the same way alchemists
tried to turn lead
into gold.

Relieved Optimism

 A L O H A  From

H  O  N  O  L  U  L  U

We've fought off every authoritarian movement this country has ever faced back to our founding, and we will fight this one too, and we will beat this one too. ... Good scientific polling says the majority of Americans think Donald Trump is a dictator who must be stopped. The American public’s clarity of vision on that is the most valuable thing that we’ve got, and we need to hold to it. ... I am more heartened than I ever thought that I would be 100 days ago.
   Rachel Maddow

She emphasized that broad, sustained engagement and clarity among the public is what gives her hope, and that it’s a sign that Americans are not willing to let democracy slip away without a fight.

Some people could be given
an entire field of roses
and only see the thorns in it.
Others could be given a
single weed and only see
the wildflower in it.
Perception is a key
component to gratitude.
And gratitude a key
component to joy.

 The sting of winter's wind
Is a passing fact,
The warmth of summer's sun
A most welcome act!

We climb and climb
eyes on the way,
Chasing tomorrow
While missing today.
But if we pause
And gently turn,
It's all we've achieved
We'll begin to discern

Appreciate
Things you’ve done,
A license earned
The races you’ve run.

Each challenging step
Each quiet feat,
Now glows beneath
Your resting feet.

dare to help someone else

Seasons And Mornings

 A L O H A  From

H  O  N  O  L  U  L  U

Taking off your shoes
is a sacred ritual.
It is a hallowed moment
of remembering the goodness
of space and time. It is a way
of celebrating the holy
ground on which you stand.
       Macrina Wiederkehr

I like to live
Where life goes on-
near a schoolyard,
Or busy intersection.

With activity of mornings
Children laughing,
Old friends meeting.
Being where life goes on.

I see a mother
Guiding dear small steps.
And I see the aged.

Buses sigh,
The bell rings
Someone waves and
Someone waits.

Bicycles passing,
People cross,
Each going on their way.
I watch quiet,
And remember:

My thoughts
Are just one window
In a world full of mornings.

The Hawaiian Isles

just changed seasons!

A few days ago, on May 2, 2025,
an annual ceremony was held here
in Waikiki to honor the traditional
Hawaiian change of seasons from
Ho‘oilo (wet season) to Kauwela (hot, dry season).
The event featured traditional hula, chants, and storytelling (mo‘olelo). It took place at sunset,
precisely when the sun set into the
crown of Pu‘u o Kapolei *-a specific hill
in the western distance-
a moment that occurs only once a year

Like a graceful vase, a cat,
even when motionless,
seems to flow.

*In Hawaiian, "Kapolei" translates to "beloved Kapo".
The name originates from a volcanic cone called Puʻu o Kapolei, where "puʻu" means "hill". The "Kapo" in Kapolei refers to the Hawaiian goddess of fertility, Kapo, who was the sister of the volcano goddess Pele.
