Doubt Your Doubt

 A   L   O   H   A  !

Doubt your doubts before

you doubt yourself.

        Lewis Pugh

A person who

has good thoughts

cannot ever be ugly.

You can have a wonky nose

and a crooked mouth and a

double chin and stick-out teeth,

but if you have good thoughts

they will shine out of your face

like sunbeams and you

will always look lovely.

Roald Dahl

If you want to

see the sunshine,

you have to

weather the storm.

Frank Lane

You can't have a wrong

mentality about life and

expect that you will see

the bright side of life.

         Bamigboye Olurotimi

 When words are

both true

and kind,

they can change

the world.

Buddha

After The Hurricane

A   L   O   H   A !
Summer afternoon,

summer afternoon;

to me those have

always been the two

most beautiful words

in the English language.

Henry James

When you're a kid,

you lay in the grass

and watch the clouds

going over, and you

literally don't have a

thought in your mind.

It's purely meditation,

and we lose that.

          Dick Van Dyke

Since everything

is a reflection

of our minds,

everything can

be changed

by our minds.

You attract

what you are,

not

what you want.

So if you want it

then reflect it.

Big Little Things

A   L   O   H   A  !
I embrace my shadow self.
Shadows give depth and
dimension to my life.
I believe in embracing
my duality...
 as illumination.
           Jaeda DeWalt

Little things seem nothing,
but they give peace,
like those meadow flowers
which individually seem odorless
but all together perfume the air.
      Georges Bernanos

Life is made up, not of great sacrifices or duties,
but of little things, in which smiles and kindness,
and small obligations given habitually, are
what preserve the heart and secure comfort.
                 Humphry Davy

Perfect happiness is a beautiful sunset,
the giggle of a grandchild, the first snowfall.
It's the little things that make happy moments,
not the grand events. Joy
comes in sips, not gulps.

Seeing Is Choosing

A  L  O  H  A !
If one sees only unloveliness in others, it is
because unloveliness is a strong element
in himself. The light he throws on others is
generated in his own soul and sees them
as he chooses to see them.
               Ernest Holmes

We are all butterflies.
Earth is our chrysalis.
             LeeAnn Taylor

Thirstily he set it to his lips, and as its cool refreshment began to soothe his throat, he thanked Heaven that in a world of much evil there was still so good a thing as ale.
                Rafael Sabatini

There was a place in childhood
that I remember well, and
there a voice of sweetest tone
bright fairy tales did tell.

Keys And Choices

A  L  O  H  A !
The key to a good life is this:
If you're not going to talk about something
during the last hour of your life, then
don't make it a top priority during your lifetime.
               Richard Carlson

Memories are truths we have chosen.

 Brothers
Choose to be kind over being right
and you'll be right every time.
        Richard Carlson

A low mood is not the time to analyze your life. . .
The trick is to be grateful for our good moods
and graceful in our low moods—not taking them too seriously. The next time you feel low, f
or whatever reason, remind yourself,
“This too shall pass.” It will.

Walking in Waikiki

Everyone has seen Diamond Head,
but it is the little side streets,
the neighborhood apartments
of Waikiki that I love -

tropic light through
leaves in a small garden.

Yes, Karen, It's important
to reconnect with places we
have lived and loved.

Your Gods are Adorable!

A   L   O   H   A  !
" Colonialism.
The enforced spread
of the rule of reason.
But who is going to
spread it
among the colonizers? "

Anthony Burgess

Our visitor in the picture
is unknowingly
disrespecting a TIKI.

They originally represented
Hawaiian Gods.

Or is it the restaurateur
who placed it there?

Yes, they were " Idols "
and were literally
" Cast Down "
by the Hawaiian People
themselves, under
missionary influence.

What does it do to a people
when their culture
is turned into kitsch?

Some contemporary
Hawaiians are
Traditional Cultural Practitioners.

Many more Hawaiians
and local residents
are Very proud
of Hawaiian Culture.

This is not a
slap on the wrist;
But a lesson
behind
just another day
in Waikiki. . .

Tiki Cave

ALOHA, Sunday Friend!

click on photos if you like, eh?
Sand Island Access Road is an industrial area of our Honolulu
known for shipping, industry, and marinas.

<>

"Creation, we are taught is not an act that happened once upon a time,
once and for ever. The act of bringing the world into existence is a continuous process.”
Abraham Joshua Heschel

It's also home to La Mariana, a private marina.

LM is known for it's piano bar and restaurant.
It is like making a trip back to the tiki bars of the 50's.

Wonderful specimens are everywhere in abundance...

This fellow is eating a delicious pig.

While we ate, my friend told me about a time
when he was wandering about on the Big Island, Hawaii.

He came upon a cave full of very old Tikis.

What were they doing there,
these family heirlooms passed down
over generations?

The missionaries
told the people to
burn
these "infernal, pagan images."

Imagine
the extra-terrestrials landing among us.

Their technology is clearly far ahead of ours.
They tell us that our beliefs are primitive;

Then they tell us to burn
our churches, synagogues, mosques & temples.

Unable to part with the spiritual treasures
that our parents and grandparents valued,
we might bury the Torahs, Bibles, statues, & symbols.

And that's what happened
to the Hawaiian people.

Sleep well, gods!
