Go GO!

A   L   O   H   A  !
If you can see the
positive sides of everything,
you'll be able to live a much
richer life than others.

When you have loved as she has loved,
you grow old beautifully.
           W. Somerset Maugham

It is a well known phenomenon that
time seems to speed up as we get older.

Another truism, is that we humans love to go fast!

So I propose to enjoy my busy mornings and
afternoons as they melt away. I will delight in the
rhythm, as week follows week, as the months strobe by.

I am savoring the sights, smells, and musings of the moments. Making them last.
Thanks for joining the frolic!

The only way to find yourself

You really have to look inside yourself
and find your own inner strength,
and say, 'I'm proud of what I am
and who I am, and I'm just
going to be myself.

One Step

A   L   O   H   A  !
Dignified Floating Giant
Our little bit can feel insignificant.
But it is not nothing. It is something.
Going from zero to one is significant.
It is important. Millions of little ones, twos,
and threes make all the big differences
that are ever made in our world.
Thank you for being a person who cares.

Everything is happening all the time.
Think about it. Today is the worst day ever
to some, the most promising and exciting
to others. Life goes on. Value your moments
and hours. No one can buy more.
Refusing to despair is a heroic choice.

Buddha was walking one day with his friends
when they were approached by an angry homeless man shouting. Buddha witnessed the man's suffering, silently wished him well, and continued on. His friends were amazed at how unruffled he remained throughout the encounter. "If someone offers you something, but you do not take it up, who does it belong to?"
Buddha asked them.
It remains with the one holding it.
We have the freedom to say "No thank you."

No Thank You: to Anger, to Fear, to Hate.
I see you. I will not BE infected by you.
Be a witness. Be kind. Do one thing.
Politely refuse. Notice the good and beautiful.
They are everywhere.

Your Bit

A   L   O   H   A  !
Do your little bit of good where you are;
it's those little bits of good put together
that overwhelm the world.
   Desmond Tutu

We're all just walking each other home.
When you know how to listen,
everybody is the guru.
The quieter you become,
the more you can hear.
And suffering is just part of
our training program.
            Ram Dass

I have never met a person whose greatest need
was anything other than real, unconditional love.
You can find it in a simple act of kindness
toward someone who needs help. -

- There is no mistaking love;
it is the common fiber of life,
the flame that heats our soul,
energizes our spirit and
supplies passion to our lives.

Living Longer

A   L   O   H   A  !
By the time we are 70,
we have all had more tragedy
and more bliss in our lives than
we could have foreseen.
If we are wise, we realize that we are but one
drop in the great river we call life and that it has
been a miracle and a privilege to be alive.

           Mary Pipher

what they offer and at what cost!

For the 99 percent of the time we've been
on Earth, we were hunter and gatherers,
our lives dependent on knowing the fine,
small details of our world.
Deep inside, we still have a longing to be
reconnected with the nature that shaped
our imagination, our language, our song
and dance, our sense of the divine.

Hole In The Wall Restaurant:
"Some of these places are weather-beaten shacks, some are tiny storefronts, some are old railcar diners, some are tucked away where you’d least expect them. Some specialize in burgers, some hot dogs, some tacos, some dumplings.
But they all have a couple things in common:
They can be considered holes in the wall,
and they’re all great places to eat."
                             Dan Myers Link

Ah Bob's!
As an immigrant to Honolulu in the 1980's
I parked my taxi and ate here a lot!
Coming here today, I commune with Honolulu's
grittier, striving side.
And reconnect with myself.
Do you have a favorite
little place too? What is it called?
what do you eat there?
What is a 'hole in the wall'
restaurant called
where YOU live?
