Washington Place was the home of Hawaii's last (for now) Queen, Liliuokalani. Her piano upon which she composed opera, as well as World Cultural Treasure song: Aloha `Oe is still in the parlour. I have attended an event on the premises and stood near her piano. Hawaii's State Capitol is across Beteretania St.

And behind the Capitol Stands a statue of the Queen,

still overseeing the affairs of Hawaii.

Some say she walks the halls of the capitol.

Behind her statue, Iolani Palace,

one time residence of Sovereign royals.

A fierce defender of the Kingdom and her people,

she traveled to Washington DC

to plead for restoration of her stolen throne.

She decried violence and wished

no bloodshed. Was imprisoned in the Palace for her pains for a time.

Before she passed in 1917, she flew the US Flag in support of Hawaiians serving in the

US military during WWI.

A man I knew in the 1980's told me of walking home from school and seeing the Queen working in her garden and smoking tiny cigars. "She was always kind to us kids." He was in his 90's. I also have known

those whose relatives were members of

her court.

A great Lady.

Pixie is as you know an easy going gal.

But she also wants you to know that

she is a fierce defender of the 

Hawaiian People, their Kingdom of the

heart, and the Culture of Aloha

they stand for!

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - "Organizers of an Aloha Unity march were expecting 10,000 people to make their way through Waikiki Saturday. Judging from the scene on Kalakaua Avenue, they may have easily met or surpassed that mark. The event is aimed at expressing opposition to the Thirty Meter Telescope project, but also show unity for Aloha Aina movements.

     “This is like family, ohana,” said Cynde Fernandes, one of the marchers. “They’re all talking. They’re singing. They’re giving a message, and this is it.”  Link   to TV News story

being protected, as the

Hawaiian people blossom in this day.

The Kingdom of Hawaii is not forgotten.

As indigenous people over the globe

reassert their identities and cultures,

so the Kanaka Maoli rise.

unhappy, unkind, sleepwalking 

though their day, oblivious. But 

remember, we do not need 

to lack for kindness. We are free to

bring our own with us 

EVERYWHERE! 

Ally yourself with it's eternal energy. 

Be a quiet ambassador of Aloha. 

It is up to others as it is to us,

this choice of how to live.  

The only way to open their eyes 

is by being kind in their presence. 

Even when there is no 

warmth in their eyes. 

It is just such kindness that 

may ultimately warm and rekindle

their humanity. But that is not 

for us to know, All we can do

Father Damien did amazing "Mother Teresa" type

work in Hawaii during the 19th Century.

This statue was erected BEFORE

his sainthood.

The center of the Capitol is not a dome

but  an open courtyard

ringed by offices and 

open lanai (balcony).

The House and Senate "sides" 

are across the open courtyard 

formed by the space between them.

As you can see from the curve here,

each chamber recalls the volcanoes

that formed these islands.

From the courtyard, you can look

down through big windows

at the legislative activity
in the legislative chambers

below (inside the volcano!)

Behind this grand banyan tree

 beyond the Makai

(Ocean side) of the capitol

stands Iolani Palace (Link)

where Hawaiian Royalty

ruled these islands in a 

constitutional monarchy.

Queen Liliuokalani, our last Queen 

(deposed shamefully)

stands watch over the daily affairs

 of today's

people and government.

She is an inspiration to great leadership.

Incidentally, many claim to have seen Liliuo's

ghost in this area, and in the corridors of the

modern capitol building too!

She seems to be 

ushering these people inside

to do their work.

Listen and REALLY hear it
for the FIRST TIME!

Many of us have been spending 

a lot of time at the capitol

lately, as the Special Session 

called by the governor 
for Marriage Equality

proceeds.

THOUSANDS of people testified.

We heard LOTS of dumb and hurtful things.

We also saw our friends tell their truth, 

and lots of really illuminating

and moving testimony

while many of us watched 

57 hours of hearings

live and streaming.
I sent in written testimony.

Hawaii seems really poised

to legalize marriage

between two adults

regardless of gender.

There are "people of faith"

on both sides of the issue,

but one side is loud, angry,

not listening,

SCARY!

But you know what?

That day is OVER

in the civilized world

(listening, Putin?).

I'll post as soon as the Bill

is passed by both houses,

because the Gov called the sess

and wants to sign the Bill.
