What did the US win
in Viet Nam?
We allowed the confusion
and dissension of that war
to color
the way we treated
the veterans.
Viet Nam vets
paid the price of war,
then paid again
here at home.
One thing we
as a nation
took from that
generation
is this lesson:
" Appreciate the Warriors
and their Families."
They do not start wars,
they do not make the policies.
They do what is asked of them
unto death.
For this
we say
"Thank You."
This day-
Every Day.
We honor all those
who put a higher purpose
above their own
life.

I know what lessons the nation took from the Vietnam era but I wonder if the nation will ever know what lesson the soldier took from Vietnam?

The Viet Nam war was fought by men who were drafted. They didn't choose the path on which they were placed. They just went and did what they were told to do by the war machine in Washington. Then, upon returning home, they found that the country did not consider them heroes. It was not fair to a whole generation,or to the country in which they gave so much.
