And You Lift Me

A  L  O  H  A !
I'll lift you

and you lift me,

and we'll both

ascend together.

Stealing A Drink

In wine there is wisdom,

in beer there is freedom,

in water there is bacteria.

The future has a way

of arriving unannounced.

When I was a kid, you could walk into Independence Hall in Philadelphia - the place where the USA was born - and touch the Liberty Bell. It was big, cold, and had a crack in it. The crack had metal repairs; Round pieces of metal wedged in to hold the bell together.

Independence Hall was at that time a dusty old building that had simply endured as the city grew around it, not yet a polished treasure. Especially in that day, the spirit of our founders hovered everywhere around a school child.

And the bell. You could touch the bell with your own hands. No glass. It was right there to spend a moment with: the bell that proclaimed liberty throughout the land. It has a long, jagged crack. It is obviously not perfect.
But nothing human is.

Together we build an always more perfect union.

Police are not the enemy - nor is the very American
yearning to be better, to shine on a hill. . . .
proclaiming Liberty. . . . everywhere. . .
to ALL!
