Honolulu's Built Enviornment

A   L   O   H   A  !
This city now doth, like a garment,
wear the beauty of the morning;
silent bare, ships, towers, domes,
theatres and temples lie open
unto the fields and to the sky;
All bright and glittering
in the smokeless air.
              William Wordsworth

Towered cities please us then,
and the busy hum of men.
       John Milton

There's something about
arriving in new cities,
wandering empty streets
with no destination.
I will never lose the love
for the arriving. . .
      Charlotte Eriksson

The life of our city is rich in
poetic and marvelous subjects.
We are enveloped and steeped as though
in an atmosphere of the marvelous;
but we do not notice it.
           Baudelaire

Our built environment
should enhance our sense of place,
preserving the uniqueness.
In Honolulu, I find a 19th Century
city, a 20th Century city, and a
21st Century city rising.
Preserving our viewplanes:
Mountain, Sky & Sea
is agreed to be crucial.

"WHEREAS, the public has expressed strong concerns
 including, but not limited to, the alleged need for the
   proposed project, the routing and manner of placement of the
   project if needed, long term financial and aesthetic impacts,
   destruction of viewplanes, scenic and recreational resources. . . "           Hawaii State Document Link
