A L O H A From Honolulu!
When I am feeling dreary,
annoyed and generally
unimpressed by life, I
imagine what it would be like
to come back to this world
for just a day after
having been dead. I
imagine how sentimental
I would feel about the very things
I once found stupid, hateful or
mundane. Oh, there’s a light switch!
It’s so… endearing.

For something to be beautiful,
it doesn't have to be pretty.

Lehua
The lehua is the first tree
that springs up from a
recent lava flow.
It’s for that reason,
when we speak in Hawaiian
and we speak of people who are
skilled, strong, and beloved,
they’re often referred to as
pua lehua, or lehua flowers.
They, like the lehua, have a
kind of resilience, a strength and
a grace about them.

Happiness can grow from
only a little contentment.

only a little contentment.

Divide and rule,
the politician cries;
unite and lead, is
watchword of the wise.
